Starship design history in light of Discovery

The amount of stuff that I can imagine that I want to be fan art could fill a forum in of itself. People make art of what they like and not just any old idea.

I imagine that their contributions are more technological than necessarily hull design. Making all ships similar makes a bit of sense to allow for ease of repair, especially towards the beginning, rather than having a Tellarite ship being sent back to Tellar to be fixed, etc.

I wouldn’t be so sure if that. If the federation ships only had earth influence they wouldn’t have a secondary hull! We can thank the Andorians, the only founding member other than humans without a “hat”(planet of hats tv tropes). I don’t think it would be fair if the nx class gets to be refit as a federation ship and not the ships form the other three powers as well. Starfleet likely came from a merger of Earth Starfleet with the Vulcan Andorran and tellarite equivalents as all the ships were merged into one STARFLEET. The curved nature of the Galaxy Class and especially the Intrepid and Soverign classes show their Vulcan influence. And since the Vulcan ships from Enterprise were very efficient I imagine they remained in starfleet for over a century. Also the Tellarite cruisers share a resemblance with the Defiant. They would not waste all those ships. I can see the resemblance between Starfleet ships and it’s main four progenitor fleets. Starfleet tends to reuse ships such as the Miranda Class for up to and in the Miranda classes case over 100 years so I’d imagine the D’kyr class would stick around in the federation starfleet and be refit and refit for just as long.

See, I imagine these races would keep their ships as kind of a home fleet, while Starfleet was built up over the years with all 4 powers technological advances. I don't see the design influences as you do. It's a nice idea though.

Another STO 25th century'ified DSC design, this time the Walker class. Only 2 pictures right now, but I'll take more Thursday when it releases. they're calling it the 'Shenzhou-Class'.

There’s a partial discovery interior diagram in the ‘Art of Discovery’ book

https://twitter.com/captain_revo/status/1328683267923582976?s=21

it does show the ready room being behind the bridge dome. Which most people I think have accepted now but none the less.

I'd always thought straight through the turbolift for Pike's ready room. The smaller room to the left says xxxx science lab. Was that Lorca's ready room possibly turned into the science lab we saw in S2?

The windows are visible on the exterior and are higher than the main bridge.
I think we had an entire thread dedicated to the ready room's location at some point during season 2.

Also yes that's Lorca's ready room turn science lab. You can see through the doors from the bridge a couple times in Season 2 and 3.

The new Ready Room is indeed likely to be one deck higher than the bridge, hence lack of direct access from the bridge which would otherwise seem logical, Lorca style.

Funny how the five windows up there become three for the final few episodes of S2, to match the three on the interior set - but are back to five now for S5. Presumably the cover plates fell off when Detmer crashed the ship...

The secondary hull layout here isn't all that satisfactory: we have seen onscreen diagrams of diagonally laid out Jeffries tubes, and a zoom-in heavily suggesting the two engine rooms are at an angle to the centerline (or at least the portside one, dedicated to mushroom experimentation, is).

It mostly matches the side cutaways we've seen in the show.

I wonder what the 'systems hub' area is. Is that meant to be the the Turbolift fun house?

Who isn't? (I'm making decent headway right now.)

But I was naturally referring to the magnificent Saru Five who get to sit at the Captain's Table there.
