Starship design history in light of Discovery

Yeah, by the time we see the I.S.S. Enterprise in TOS the Terran Empire has probably spent generations back-engineering the technology from the Defiant and is comfortable having achieved the firepower, speed and other tactical advancements that those efforts gave them. At this point the rebellions against the Empire seem to be quelled or largely so and the Empire may not see a need for greater technology to defeat what they see as small bands of raiders and terrorists.

It's possible that Defiant was used as a testbed for new weapons systems, with a more powerful warp core and spaceframe than any other ship they had could support at the time. The result was an evil looking mish-mash of bizarre experimental weaponry and advanced shielding systems that the emperor, at some point, continued to use as their own personal hotrod, despite the native creation of other Mk 1 Connies in their own universe.

That, and "Defiant" is just a cool-sounding non-Federation Imperial name - like a big neon middle finger flying around the quadrant at Warp 8.

Please don’t ignore my latest post
If somebody wants to do that kind of fanart they will.
You'll just have to keep searching the web for it till it shows up. (or not)
Asking for it here, is probably not conducive to it happening.

You might want to try and looking in the FAN ART FORUM here or even asking there might get you the answer your are seeking.

I can’t find a kelvin style shenzhou art anywhere. It would be a matter of repainting and relabeling and swapping out nacelles. Problem is it hard to tell on the kelvin which tube is the nacelle. Also I’d like to see D’kyr type Vulcan ships form Enterpise refit as a Starfleet ship. Since that class is larger and faster than the Enterprise i would imagine they would be top of the line close or top of the line ships during Discovery and TOS. I cannot find any fan art of that either but I like to picture them with hull labeling and federation nacelles instead of rings and a federation style coating. Same with the Andorian ships in enterprise. In fact many starfleet ships seem to derive from a blend of human and Andorian styles. Ships with seperate primary hulls(saucer) which are similar to Earth ships and secondary hulls(engineering section) which are similar to Andorian ships may be the result of combining design philosophies for maximizing ships capabilities. And the curves of the Galaxy class and especially ships like the intrepid, sovereign, and inquiry classes show their Vulcan influence. They are all blends of designs from Earth, Andoria, Vulcan and Tellar, and likely other federation members as well. If the Klingons joined the federation it would have a major impact on ship design. It would lead to their ships being refitted with each other’s tech and new ships being designed which combine design philosophies. A future flagship might look like the STO Enterprise F but longer and with the Klingon dolphin tail shape near the end. If it weren’t for the Andorians and Vulcans and perhaps tellarites the Enterprise D would not be the Enterprise as we know it.

The amount of stuff that I can imagine that I want to be fan art could fill a forum in of itself. People make art of what they like and not just any old idea.

When thinking about the lineage of federation ships we must not ignore the pre federation Vulcan Andorian and Tellarite ships. We should pay equal attention to all ships we see belonging to all the founding members before the federation and not just the NX class
I imagine that their contributions are more technological than necessarily hull design. Making all ships similar makes a bit of sense to allow for ease of repair, especially towards the beginning, rather than having a Tellarite ship being sent back to Tellar to be fixed, etc.

Sadly, those of us running STO on consoles are likely going to need to wait for this until January when we get the "House Shattered" upgrade. We're always sitting on hind tit when it comes to this game. :klingon:

Re: Starfleet wreckage near the courier waypoint (Federation relay station)

I think the CGI artists added the "U.S.S." and the "NCC" to identify the wreckage as Starfleet; however, I don't think they added a name and a number for when I attempted to see these markings, especially in one of the screencaps for the season's preview, what I expected to find in its place was not there. It was missing.

The ‘U.S.S.’ part definitely had space for a name. Why the name isn’t there is anyone’s guess. It’s not like the section of hull where the name should be was scorched beyond recognition.

Sounds like an unfortunate rendering error that they intended to put a name there at some point, and by the time the whole scene was rendered, put in the can and sent off to editing (probably all done by a number of different people who weren't communicating as effectively under COVID lock-down as they might have been if they were sitting at the office), it was too late to go back and put it in there.

I've tried various permutations of older nacelles on Shenzhou (in a rough and ready way, I am not an artist, i have zero skill at this, this is only for a basic idea). the segmented Daedalus nacelles look out of place, the Kelvin ones are ok. I don't have a good looking version of that.

The B-24-CLN nacells don't look half bad on her, but i don't have an image.

My favorite "old Shenzhou" though is Franklinized Shenzhou
