Starhunter (later Starhunter 2300) to Relaunch as Web Series

Toronto-based Starfield Indie on Monday said it has acquired control of the worldwide Starhunter franchise rights and plans to produce 26 webisodes, eight to 15 minutes each, in November.

the series' original creators, Daniel D’or and Philip Jackson, Starfield president of production and development, will work with writer Nelu Ghiran to relaunch the brand.

The relaunch of Starhunter is expected to include an online Starhunter game, four graphic novels to be written by David Tischman, and HD versions of the original TV episodes.

It is that last sentence that looks interesting:

From what I saw on Youtube it looks very british with Dutch angles galore.

Starhunter (later Starhunter 2300) is a Canadian science fiction television series that aired for two seasons. The series was produced in Canada by The Danforth Studios Ltd. (a D'or/Jackson Company) in association with Alliance Atlantis with some photography in the United Kingdom.

The first run of the first season aired in Canada, from 1 November 2000 to 28 March 2001. Starhunter was syndicated in the United States by Western Television Syndicators, going to air in the fall of 2002. The first season continues to re-run in many territories. The second season had its first run in Canada from 9 August 2003 to 3 April 2004.

Funny enough, I bought the entire first season on DVD for $5 at a nearby retail store earlier this week. I remember watching it in syndication, but my local station unceremoniously dropped it shortly after the second season started. I thought it was a cool, relatively low-budget series that did echo British sci-fi shows of the late '70s and '80s in its storytelling.

And according to a Reddit AMA the creators did, while it's currently in the US they will be announcing channels in other countries like Ireland shortly (though not, ironically, Canada.)

I bought one of them in the bargin bin and never watched it. Maybe I will now. But 2300 goes for $80 used on Amazon.

Read it and found two Trek episodes in there - TNG The Bonding (someone speaking to their holographic mother) and the Enterprise one where a Trip clone is used for spare parts.
