Stargate: Universe: Too soon?

^^I was wondering about how the paying of non writers factors in. Writers pitch the idea, the studio pays them, but do they cover the costs beyond the writers? I'd always assumed that when the network orders the show, they start writing the checks to cover the start up costs involved in prepping the series. If work from non writers is far enough along that set construction can begin within the next couple of months, I was simply thinking out loud that all of this-ATL canning in favor of the new show, was pretty much set in stone long before the announcement was made. :vulcan:

BBS poster+ over thinking= fun waste of time. ;)

Glad to hear the Renaissance Fair set was decommissioned. I remember the feature on that set on the season nine DVDs--all the writers and producers beaming over this set that immediately looked cheap to me. I hope they can do better.

I wonder if this means we're getting more hut village sets or everything's being focused on ship areas like the cafeteria, bridge, quarters and lots and lots of corridors.

I swear the SG production crew love their corridors. From goa'uld ships to Asgard to Daedalus and Wraith

I'm curious to see what the bridge looks like. Maybe our General Hammond type character /older authority figure will have a chair in the middle and will resemble the Aurora set/ ORI bridge.

I wouldn't mind a large portion of the show being devoted to exploring the damned ship. It would be a nice form of symmetry in a way, finally delivering on the promise of Atlantis that was never delivered (exploring the city). At least in another form.

Corridors are cheap. You wouldn't think Renaissance fairs are cheap by their prices when you go to one.

There's only a limited number of sets and money and that would get boring fast, they're there to continue the mission of the Ancients and find other humanoid life forms, not to explore the ship.

Why do they want to find humanoid life forms? They're a bore.

This reminds me of why ENT flopped.

Do you mean humanoid life = Humans or as in other aliens with the basic two arm two legs type of life, which is that the meaning of the word humanoid life if I remember right.

ENT flopped for B&B writing & UPN trying to run the show as well but back on the topic of SG-A...The Ancients create life in there form so humanoid life. Also we've had non humanoid life in the past but you its just easier to have the main lifeforms of the show humanoid life (All SCI FI's do it).

Obviously the whole show can't be about exploring the ship, but we've already seen a whole series (Atlantis) that is devoted to stories with the village set, and I've found those less than satisfying on the whole. I'm not saying they can't do those stories, but why not have the big set be devoted to the ship instead of a generic planet of the week set?

I'm sure there'll be plenty of standing sets for the ship, but they'll still need sets for the other show's DVD movies so I'm not expecting much in the way of sets at the start. Maybe they do more virtual sets with this series.

If they can do them believably, virtual sets would be a good idea. They would help capture a scope and portray a different feel than Stargate has been able to do consistently in the past.

^^Something Atlantis desperately needed, to really show off the city in all it's glory.

If they would actually bother...you know, to explore the place....onscreen! :scream:

Personally I don't care if every room in Atlantis is the same shape/design. Just get them explore different parts of it and base a few storylines around that.

I think sanctuary will be a good indenter to see if scfi can afford to do real looking virtual sets.
