Stargate Continuum

As for Baal getting the anti acended device. I give up, how anyone can think it's even remotely possible for him to get the device is bonkers. Do you guys even remember EVERYTHING they had to go through to get to Merlin?
But Baal remembers it all as well and he knew where it was to start out with all he need to do was to get there before the traps were even set.

How can he do that? he could only time travel ONCE! and he travelled that one time to Earth in 1929 (or whatever year it was). Once he travelled back there he no longer had the facility on Praxion and had to build it again. In order to build the facility again he would have needed to build his forces up and fight the other system lords first, by the time he'd done that it would be stupid to risk time travel again, he likely built the machine again 'just incase'.

On another note, it baffles me why he even bothered to build it again.

I am completely and utterly gob smacked that you all believe it was a time machine when it clearly wasn't, IT WAS A SENSOR! IT WAS A DATABASE! IT WAS A COMPUTER! Nothing more and nothing less. The only thing causing any time travel was the Stargate.

By that "logic," how can anyone call a mass of computers, gears, wheels engine parts, and seats a "car"? Answer: Easily, because that what it does, no matter what it happens to be made of. And it's much, much easier to say "car" than it is "gasoline engine welded to a frame with an operators cabin, wheels, and computer controls."

If it's not a time machine, what is it? Not just "what is it made of," but what is it?

It is a device that predicts where a solar flare is going to occur and how that is going to interract with the wormhole in a Stargate and tells you when the Stargate will deposit you in what year if you step through the gate at the right moment.

The machine itself will not send you through time, the Stargate does. If you punch up that you want to get to 1994 for example, to see Stargate in the Theaters :D You punch it up, but if you just stood there it won't do anything. You have to step through the time machine, which is the Stargate. The machine just told you when to step through.

Like I said, it is just like the Aschen computer telling them when it was the right time to send the note. The Aschen computer is just a way more advanced version of what Baal created.

So by this argument, Doc Brown's DeLorean wasn't a time machine. It was a container for the flux capacitor. Any time machine will have an element that causes the time travel and many more elements related to control and interface. You can't say the whole isn't a time machine just because only one element of it causes the phenomenon.

Dissect words, much?

Baal didn't build a time machine, he built a big computer system to exploit a flaw in the Stargates, the Stargates are the time machine

The DeLorean reference isn't the same thing, in this case Doc Brown did build a time machine, he built the flux capacitor and all, Baal did NOT build the Stargate(s), the Ancients did, THEY built the time machine, all Baal did was build a big computer

The stargate is a mode of transportation.

The stargate plus Baal's computers is a time machine.

So how did he got off of the boat after they placed the bomb? And what did he do in the 60 odd years til he came back to earth?

The difference between the Stargate and Baals computer system is the same difference between a Car and a GPS. The GPS system tells you where to go, the car is a separate thing altogether and is what actually gets you from A to B.

he gated to another world in that time period, he then spent the next 60 odd years building a power base and defeating the other system lords including apparently Anubis since it's Anubis's ship he used to approach Earth.
The entire film is based on Baal using those 60 years and his knowledge of future events to become the most powerful Goa'uld.

70 years. And what did he do with his younger self from that period? He wouldn't kill him or he would cease to exist...

Maybe all those clones weren't clones. They were new Baals from each loop backward in time. :D

Does that mean a car with a GPS plugged into it is no longer a car? Or, perhaps a more apt analogy, that a car with wings and a propeller added to it so it is capable of flight wouldn't be an airplane? By your argument, it would be a car with wings attached that can thus fly, but the completed unit would not be an airplane, even though it fulfills all the requirements of being an airplane.

Ba'al has a computer system. Ba'al has a satellite. Ba'al has a stargate. If he puts them all together in a specific order, Ba'al has a practical time machine. If he just had any one of those elements, or they were incorrectly assembled, he would be unable to travel through time with ease and accuracy.

70 years. And what did he do with his younger self from that period? He wouldn't kill him or he would cease to exist...

Who says? Ba'al is already changing history enough that Younger Ba'al would never become him in any meaningful sense. It's pretty clear that he doesn't have to worry about preserving the timeline.

But you're not comparing things properly. The Stargate and Baals computer system is the same difference between a Car and GPS system, it is NOT the same as putting wings and a propeller onto a car. Baals satellite/computer is NOT attached to the Stargate as a functioning part of it, it is completely seperate and has nothing to do with the time travelling aspect of the Stargate. Time travel through the Stargate can be accomplished WITHOUT Baals computer system, Baals computer system is NOT a requirement to time travel.

WHY CAN YOU NOT UNDERSTAND THIS SIMPLE LOGIC! :brickwall:

Except without Baals computer you wouldn't know when to go through the gate, or indeed which gate to dial TO time travel.

You could use another advanced computer, I bet Ancients computers are capable of it, the Tolan, the Nox etc...

Or you could time travel into the future in the time traveling jumper, know when the solar flare is going to hit, come back and then go through knowing a future event, no computer required :D

Except without Baals computer you wouldn't know when to go through the gate, or indeed which gate to dial TO time travel.

IT STILL DOESN'T MAKE IT A TIME MACHINE. :brickwall:

The setup was a machine. And it was a machine that facilitated time travel. Not caused it, but made it a heck of a lot easier than it would otherwise be.

What might one call such a machine which aids in time travel, then?

Seems to me you're the one sticking doggedly to a position which, while technically correct, isn't sufficiently more correct than the other view to warrant this kind of debate.....

A GPS makes it a damn sight easier to get where you're going but it isn't a car.
Why is everybody finding it so hard to just accept that in this case I am right.
