Stargate Comic-Con Appearance after 7 years

Don't knock it until you tried it. Did anyone really expect Stargate from him to begin with?
His movies all tend to be very "Yee haw! 'Merica rules!" action fests, which Stargate was to some extent. I can just imagine he would overemphasize those aspects of it.

As someone who doesn't even like the Stargate movie very much, but loves SG-1, I hope he stays far away from the franchise. Especially after the turd that was Independence Day: Resurgence (and I call it that even though I like the original Independence Day as a fun, brainless movie).

The Emmerich "Stargate" film was okay, but it wasn't until the series where Mr. MacGyver himself was cast, that it really connected.

Emmerich has since become a theatrical auto-shit that thinks the audience is the toilet.

I liked the first Stargate. Wasn't the greatest movie of all time, but it was decent enough for what followed.

And SG1 was a big fan of things that go 'kaboom!'

I used to really like Emmerich, but he's definitely not the same any more.

I think his tinfoil hat is leaking into his brain.

Independence Day was the re-worked script for Emmerich's sequel to the Stargate film, wasn't it? So instead of great, big pyramids dropping out of the sky over Earth, they made them into saucers.

Not to turn in to an Emmerich apologist, because I'm not and Stargate is the one film of his that I really like, but I'm going to play advocate for a bit.

First of all, Stargate was one property where he was working from something more than just the 'Merica! tropes. It was "Chariot of the Gods" inspired, conspiracy level story with ancient aliens. While not completely unique it was fun, and wasn't mired in the usual tropes.
ID4 works better as a standalone film, IMO

And by "standalone" I mean without needless sequels.
Many films are like that.

Especially the original "Star Wars."

That's a myth. ID4 was never planned to be a Stargate sequel. The story gets conflated, what actually happened was that Emmerich and Devlin first discussed a story idea that eventually became ID4 while attending the premiere for Stargate.

Awww, bummer. Well thanks for straightening me out.

The rumour I recall circulating way back when was that at some point they considered doing a third movie that would be a sequel to both Stargate & ID4, bringing the two together.
It seemed at least half way plausible given the alien tech in ID4 felt aesthetically similar to what we saw in Stargate. I think ID4 even used some of the same musical cues for both the aliens first showing up and Ra's entrance.

Mind you it could just as easily be pure fabrication. I've never bothered to try and verify it.
