I feel like the TNG S1-S2 were more or less the same as S3-S7, just a jumper variety that could exist for any uniform style.

The monster maroons looked like and should have been treated as dress uniforms, with a less bulky standard uniform.

My only issue with the S1-S3 version of the TNG uniform is they seemed more like space pajama onsies. From a practical sense having a separate top and bottom makes far and away more sense just from a practicality POV..to say nothing of ..just kind of silliness.

The monster maroons were fussy to be sure, but they're a bit ..below formal dress uniform level. For me they're more akin to what the US Navy considers service dress uniforms which to be fair you do see in service on a day-to-day basis.

I'm not sure what a officer service uniform would look like in the 2278-2350 era.

I mean, no doubt the maroons were a huge step up from the TMP pajamas. There could have been a more standard duty version if they decided to go that way. They were good for the big screen I reckon.

Admiral uniforms through Picard season 1 to 3. Total inconstancy. In only 1 and a half year. I don't understand. I think that Picard uniform (photo 3) on that speech he gave at the Academy was the best. And why Shelby has "chancellor of the academy" combadge? Why not normal badge as other admirals?

Honestly I'm at the point where I look forward to seeing new uniforms. I don't care if it's unrealistic by 21st Century human standards that they change so often. The Federation is big, and it's fun to see what new uniforms they come up with. Added bonus is if you hate the current design, a new one is bound to crop up in a couple years you might like.

I really love the 2401 uniforms. If a new show set after Picard season 3 happens, I hope they keep them. And I hope they give medical officers their own distinct color, like DSC has done. I think white shoulders and piping would look really sharp on that design.

And why Shelby has "chancellor of the academy" combadge?
If that's supposed to be the Academy Chancellor Badge, then why wasn't Picard wearing it in the season 2 premiere when he was actually giving a speech at the Academy? You know, the picture of him you even posted in this very post of yours I'm quoting. Ergo, the badge has some different meaning. I don't know what it could be, but it obviously means something other than Academy Chancellor.

Or it's just an error. These things happen all the time in Star Trek. Even in the Holy Works of 1966-2005. Especially during the Blessed 1990s which it's now en vogue to romanticize.

I doubt that Shelby was meant to be a retired admiral whom they pulled out of mothballs for the occasion when she was unveiling the new fleet synchronization thing.

I bet if Kurtzman's crew do an Enterprise-C series, they will copy the same trick from DIS and introduce a new-to-audience fleetwide duty uniform with the Enterprise crew as the outliers.
Would honestly be fine if they retconned the Monster Maroon from that era. I really like that uniform most of the time, but when they removed the turtleneck and the belt it just looked silly. Either go with the classic or go with something new.

Why do Starfleet change uniforms so frequently? They apparently kept the monster maroon uniforms for decades and now change the design every couple of years.
I'm somehow not as bothered by the different uniforms for different commands as the TOS convention of every command having a different insignia instead of the Starfleet insignia being standard.

And the uniform situation is not that far off from how the US Navy rolls with various different uniforms based upon weather conditions and the commanding officer's discretion. The Navy has gone through three iterations of their camo pattern uniforms, each looking different with different color patterns over the past 13 years, and that doesn't count whether the CO might feel it more appropriate to wear the khaki work uniforms or the "whites" because of hot weather conditions and a semi-formal occasion. And last year the Navy announced another unified work uniform for sailors to replace all of this.
