Starfleet Has The Worst Footwear

Well I think in the latter TOS movies during the Nimbus mission I think they did wear some more hiking style boots. Perhaps the shipbased ones are more "dress" uniform than anything else. Like in an office, does everyone, outside of a shipping/receiving wear steel toes? But I could see engineers wearing steel toes, and they weren't.

But yeah, no tread.. yeesh... even on carpet they had to be slipping a bit.

I've never noticed their shoes before because I'm a guy.

I don't notice anything relating to fashion.

ahhahaha

I remember when Torres was inspecting the wreckage of a shuttle in the cargo bay, that she was wearing these incredibly high heeled boots. It seemed so entirely impractical for the character that it always stopped me from becoming involved in that episode.

<sarcasm> I for one think they should invest in some Vibrams, could see Picard rocking these:

I know they look strange, but medically those are a good idea... especially for diabetics, hammertoes, etc.
I cannot say that I remember ever looking at their feet. It is the same with real life. I never pay attention to the shoes someone wears.
+1:techman:

I also agree that in the future our steel-toe boots will seem quaint and silly compared to the materials in use by then. I have yet to find a pair of steel-toe boots which are comfortable and lightweight.
Try looking into some of the composite toed boots, some of them are not too bad. I know what you mean for the steel toes, I always hated them. I do have one pair that isn't too bad that are made by Corcoran, but I think they don't make them anymore.

I am surprised they didn't have something, footwear wise, that seemed a little more mission specific.

^This is one area where the new movie succeeds... practical footwear. Those babies actually have treads, are wide enough in the bridge and have zippers & straps.

I never really more than a passing thought to the shoes on ST, they weren't wearing laced brogues, and that was good enough for me.

About treads though, surely by the 24th century, they'd have some sort of anti-slip material on the soles (I could've done with a pair of those last time we had snow here).

In all honesty I never really paid much attention to the shoes they were wearing, except in TMP, because of the way they were the same colour as the rest of the uniform. What I was paying attention to was the absolutely awful casual dress of the characters. Where did they do their shopping?! The Ferengi Direct Catalogue?!

^^^
They're motorcycle boots.
Which means they were designed for more than show. They are practical enough to be used in real life.

This is true for ALL of Trek. From 22nd to 24th century they showed the tackiest, most awful casual clothing.
