Starfleet Dilemma: Which Captain Would You Follow?

I’d add that Jellico could have also been testing the Enterprise crew, to see if they were really up to it. Remember, in “Encounter at Farpoint”, Picard at first is kinda short and miserly toward Riker. He has a mission to accomplish, and that’s the top priority. Pleasantries and hand-shaking can wait until the job is done. Q was the most important thing to deal with at the moment.

This is not a question about who you think is the best Captain. Instead, which Captain would you choose to serve under? Let’s remove the issue of ship or station and assume that the Captain of your choice is getting a new command with an entirely unknown bridge crew. Who would you choose, and why? I’d be interested to know your reasons.

Kirk, in a heartbeat. I might die under his command, but it won't be because I was forgotten, left behind, or that he didn't care. Kirk brought the Enterprise back intact from what, 3 five year missions between TOS and TUC? like the odds. (Not counting the deliberate loss of the 1701 at Genesis- still with no Starfleet casualties.)

The officers Kirk forgot about and left behind on Triacus in "AND THE CHILDREN SHALL LEAD" would like a word.

(Having said that, it was one of the reasons why that episode is the worst of TOS because it REALLY painted Kirk as incompetent and uncaring when he just goes to the starbase at the end instead of going back to get those two people first.)

I will go:

1. Pike (Anson Mount)
2. Prime Georgiou (did not last long)
3. Archer
4. Burnham

But if my butt is on the line, I'd want Kirk, Picard, Sisko, or Janeway.

Besides all the other good reason wanting to serve under him, if you want to borrow the runabout on Saturday night, he'll always let you! or at least not press charges if you take it anyway.

I have to say that I would follow Picard all the way! I love all our captains but Picard has always made the command decisions I admire the most. He has always put me at ease.
