I’m trying to figure out how much of a completist I really am. I have TOS on VHS, DVD, even laserdisc, and now on streaming on Amazon and Netflix. I’m not enough of a videophile that I can notice the difference between Blu-ray video quality and streaming HD from Netflix (I’ve rented the blu-rays to compare). Basically it seems like the only thing that’s on the Blu-rays that I don’t already have is the Starfleet Access commentaries. I would only want to shell out for the BRs just for those features if they’re truly awesome and have a bunch of amazing commentary I’ve never seen before. Is this the case? How good are the Starfleet Access commentaries? As a whole I’ve always found the TOS DVD special features to be a bit underwhelming and I fear I’ll have a similar reaction if I get the Blu-rays just for those commentaries.

I checked, they're not, that's why I'm asking.
When one of the writers or producers is on screen it's good. But what I hate about the blu-rays is the whole "in universe" text commentaries. I find it very childish and condescending. Much like the new content in the blu-ray movies where some starfleet officer explains Genesis or whatever.
I don't have the series DVDs, but I can compare these to the wonderful text commentaries by the Okudas on the movie DVDs. They are informative and often funny. They actually tell you about the movie in a filmmaker kind of way. I don't have the movies on blu-ray but I understand these have been removed? I think the show DVDs actually had some Okuda commentaries that were also removed.
I think there's something very juvenile about the way ST in general has been handled by people in charge recently, whether it's the new blu-ray extras or the current movies. It's like all the people who think it's a silly kids' show have been put in charge of the output.
