Starfleet Academy spy photos at AICN

Am I the only one who can see black (or at least darker grey) uniforms mixed in with the lighter grey uniforms?

Those in black also have an insignia on their chest that is not present on the uniforms of the light greys.

This, from a guy who cares little about such details. I just wondered if anyone else noticed these things.

And if I am the first to notice this, I hereby name the black uniforms "Cogley Uniforms," so named in my honor because I discovered them. Hey, it's better than naming a disease after myself.
looks like the black uniforms have chest insignia, the grey have insignia on the hats like pikes hat and the reds have collar pips

Somebody PLEASE mention the boots!!!! I am salivating here.....maan its geeks like me that put ordinary people with lives off Star Trek.......

Ooh! I just found this over at AICN while doing the news (and put it up, of course.)

But jeez. Those are ugly uniforms. And why two skirt-lengths?

The dark uniforms kind of look like Stargate SG-1 type uniforms.

I love the flying car. And it does look like the one that someone posted upthread.

It's pretty cool that someone got some spy shots for the hungry fans. :D I for one appreciate it.

In the top picture one guy seems to be checking his pecker.

The naked legs look very raw and pink for some reason after I magnified them.

Some skirts have v plait at the back.

Actually come to think of it it actually reminds me of "V" THE SCI-FI SERIES.

Almost sure of it as when I first looked at it I had a feeling of seeing this scene before.

This could actually be a "V" remake shots.

The scene does look ugly and not Trekkish to me.

It is "V".

In any case it is the wrong shade of red.A very hideous red.

I have a bad feeling about this.

hmmmm. Got to say, I'm not keen on the uniforms. Not because fo any silly 'not Trek enough' reason - I just don't care for them. The black/grey ones are alright (cept the hats - :wtf:) but the red ones are a bit too loud for my taste. Might look better in the finished film though, filmed colours rarely resemble real life colours!

I see what you mean. If they are going back to the original uniforms (which they obviously are since it's a pre-Kirk film), I think that's one area of the film they can afford to re-image and update. The retro look is just so dated. That's not to say skirts and boots don't work, quite the contrary, but the loud colours need to go.

^ Yeah, that's what I thought, too. I'm also curious about those marks on the pillars.
If you mean those two red dots.. Then I would guess that those are meant for post-production so that they can add digital pillars easily on top of them.

Every dot or square on something in these pics is for ILM to line up everything in 3D on their computers when makeing digital wheverhaveyou into the background / forground / ect.

It's funny to watch the behind the scenes stuff on Jurassic Park with actors running in an mostly empty field that has tennis balls planted every yard makeing a grid like pattern so ILM can add digital dinos to the shot later on.

That and remove said tennis balls from the shot as well, natch.

When you sit in the theater and watch this scene that's being filmed you may not reconize it when they are done inserting digital whateveritis, one of the great things about shooting outdoors in natural light, give the FX guys a point of referance, the shadows are going that way so the sun is over there, therefore we do the same on our digital stuff so it blends right in.

The problem with doing that stuff in a studio is obvious, yes ?

* Who knows how ILM works when they do this stuff, how odd *

The computer needs something as reference to tell it where to put stuff, otherwise they'd have to position the CGI manually for every single frame. The bluescreen also has markers on it. I'm guessing they'll insert a shot of the golden gate or something for the bluescreen.

Sure I do.

He's the old guy that Goldie Hawn keeps hanging around.

I just can't always bring the names of every B-movie actor to mind in an instant - too many years, too much drug use. I mean mine - or maybe Kurt's, I dunno.
You apparently don't know he was considered an A-movie actor for some time, or, for that matter, that he is involved in a tabloid "deathwatch" due to a cancer threat (appparently VERY serious) at the moment. Apparently one prognosis gave him 5 weeks to live. So thanks for that sensitivity. You could have at LEAST said "that '60s teen from the Disney flicks".

But you didn't, did you?

Okay, you have this a bit screwed up. Kurt Russell is not the one on the "5-week cancer deathwatch"....that's Patrick Swayze of "Dirty Dancing" fame.
You are correct, of course. I was probably drunk or something.

Let's take away a lesson from this kids...beer and teh internets do NOT mix. :D

There were some earlier pictures of Chris Pine wearing a red uniform. I guess he was playing Cadet Kirk in those scenes (assuming red uniform is for cadets).
