I did some figuring out. In the past eight years since the current era of Star Trek began, we've gotten nine new uniforms in regular rotation in just the live action shows alone. And you can probably expand that if you count things like the variant uniform from Pike's youth as seen in the deleted flashback scene in S1, the refurbished Monster Maroon also seen in SNW, the fact that we have seen the Lower Decks uniforms in live action, and the various uniforms we see from different eras in the Disco episode Su'kal. Now take a look at the franchise's first forty years and there's only nine uniforms in that time. Eleven if you count the AGT uniforms and the 29th century timecop uniforms.

Early on Chekov was treated as basically an overgrown kid with no experience and green in most departments. In at least two Season 2 episodes he's referred to as 22 years old or way too young, and even has to defend himself from accusations he's in over his head and too green.
