News Starfleet Academy Coming to P+

Another idea is the Enterprise could be a Earth ship built for Earth before it rejoined the Federation. Starfleet had retired the name because Earth was using it and now the ship is being assimilated into the Federation since Earth is a member again. It's like DS9 the station sort of. It's old and fallen apart and has been in service for a long time and some of the tech is very primitive even with modern upgrades.

True, but that’s only because they weren’t going to make all new ships for a hastily tacked-on scene before the show got cancelled.

With computer graphics would that really be that hard to do? I mean it isn't like the old days were you got to make models.

and most of those ships, or at least the designs, were already really old. but over time design choices mature. the way all cars start to look the same year by year.

I'd actually like to see Enterprise J come back in from some centuries long extra-galactic voyage. It missed the Temporal Wars after Azati Prime. It's large enough it could function perfectly fine as a generational ship.

Also its the 32nd century. Let's finally have some clones and it not be a bad thing. Just the occasional normal happy well adjusted clone and no one gives it any more thought than identical twins.

And with an extra-galactic voyage they would have avoided The Burn.

Making CG ships still takes time and money. It might be easier than the days of physical models, but that doesn't mean it still isn't costly or time consuming.
though they managed to design and make new uniforms.
At this point, I don't think they can help themselves when it comes to new uniforms. I mean, they basically came up with a new uniform design every season on Disco.

Didn't they plan on keeping the season 3 uniform but felt grey-on-grey for every scene wouldn't look great? They felt Tilly should be in sciences and not command so changed her division stripe in post.

Not exactly. The uniforms worked fine on the Federation HQ sets, but when we saw the Disco crew wearing them on Disco's bridge, it was felt they clashed too much, which is why in S4 and 5 even though the Disco crew wear the new color coded uniforms, the S3 gray uniforms are still worn at Federation HQ.

What boggles the mind is that Starfleet used the monster maroons, with extremely minimal changes, for 70+ years, and now we can’t go a season or two without a uniform change.

Of course, I know why that is IRL. Just thought it was a humorous observation.

2278-2349.

71 years, and maybe four variants total over all that time. Nowadays Starfleet changes duty uniforms like it's competing to win a prize for the most fabric and dyes used over a five-year period.

The new series have gone kind of crazy with all the uniform changes, but they have made a point of showing that different parts of Starfleet use different costumes. So it's very plausible that the lost era had just as many changes over the years, we just never saw them because ships like the Enterprise B and C stuck with the iconic monster maroons.

Either that or they switched to brand new costumes that were just really similar to what officers were wearing 20 years ago, like the Picard season 1 uniforms.
