News Starfleet Academy Coming to P+

I've lately changed my tune about SFA. At first I was not remotely excited about it, both because of the 32nd century setting and that I didn't think the idea was original. But now I feel like it's different enough from the formulaic crew on starship visiting planets-of-the-week that I'm cautiously optimistic about it.

The people who made those shows aren’t working on this one, so that makes no sense
I'm just saying that this isn't the first time someone tried to attract a wider audience by giving us a series about future heroes going to school and I don't get the impression it ever really worked.

I prefer to think of the show as being the Star Trek version of Harry Potter. Young people from various backgrounds go to a school where they face the many challenges presented to them.

I just stated, after someone asserted that the cadets are "good-looking", that they are not, particularly the clearly overweight actress.
Anyone who isn't into "body positivity" ideology can clearly see that.

They are, quite frankly, the only reason I have any interest in the show.

If I were to put a number on my interest level... before Hunter and Giamatti, my interest was about 5%. When they got signed aboard, it jumped to 10%. When Picardo signed on, it jumped to 20%.

Which is still the lowest interest I have ever had in a new, greenlit, and confirmed production of STAR TREK. Even SECTION 31 started off as being a higher interest because of Yeoh and that it would center on Section 31 and we might get a glimpse of the Lost Era, with a bit of Rachel Garrett added in.

I hear Tilly,Reno and Cronenberg and Admiral Vance will be in it as well and even though didn't like the show I did like those characters so that has created some additional interests as well. Heck why bother with any cadets in the show. Just do a show focused on the teachers and officers. :)

I have no problem with the Starfleet Academy concept. There have been numerous novels and comics based on the concept, and they've all been entertaining and very much Star Trek.

Ian Ziering needs to be in at least one episode as a nod to decades of Trek fan ranting about how a Academy show would just be Bevery Hills 90210 in space. I actually miss it. Saying it will be like Hogwarts or something just isn't the same.

And I like all 4 of those characters, despite DISCO being at the bottom of the ST shows for me. But the concept of ACADEMY just never really spoke to me, which is why my excitement level is so low.

I'll give it a shot, of course, but my expectations are not high.

A show about teachers who don't teach?

It will be true avant-garde. For you see it will be the teachers who teach themselves as they explore what it means to be human! Also every time the characters are in a action scene they will be dressed like clowns. For you see this will metaphorically represents the absurdity of violence. Also everyone speaks French and people will have to read subtitles.

I'm in a similar boat, come to think of it!
