News Starfleet Academy Coming to P+

I was just watching Katee Sackhoff's podcast interview with Jonathan Frakes. Katee is a big Star Trek fan and mentioned how she would love to be cast in Star Trek. Frakes brought up Starfleet Academy and said he would put her name forward for a role. So who knows, maybe we will get a Katee Sackhoff appearance in Season 2 or later.

I'd simply rather have more episodes per season than already a 2nd one.

These "kids" are gonna' be mature ass adults with receding hairlines before they finish their introductory courses at academy...

Same issue with SNW - I love that show... I think... but can't be 100% sure, because that shit is gonna' be half a decade old before all the main characters have had at least one episode focused on them and the writers have one "normal" television season amount of episodes to prove themselves.

Complaining bout the current state of television production is kinda getting old. It's not some new thing that shows have shorter seasons. The days of 20+ episode seasons are gone and probably not coming back. It's become more about quality, not quantity. Be glad it has 10 episodes, and not 8, or even 6 like some series.

I prefer 10 episodes to actually stay up on.

20+ episodes are too much. There's still episodes I can't recall over the details.

I liked the 13-episode "half seasons" that used to be pretty standard for premium shows, but it's gradually reduced down in the streaming era to around 6-8 episodes for most of the Netflix/Star Wars/Marvel shows.

Star Trek is doing pretty well in comparison with 10 episodes.

Comparing with network TV thirty years ago is completely asinine. Are there any shows making over 20 episodes a year apart from soap opera, reality shows and maybe a few procedurals? It's just not possible for a genre show any more.

Not sure why they do that sometimes. Doesn't it make more sense to first see if people like a show or it becomes popular before giving it a renewal? Is it something that has to do to get actors to sign on because they might be afraid to sign onto a show in which they will be out of a job after just 1 season?

It's been the same for most of the Trek shows. Disco already got renewed for S2 before S1 finished. Picard was renewed for two further seasons during production of S1. SNW S4 was greenlit before S3 wrapped post-production.

It'll be to do with scheduling. If they have to wait around for Season 1 to air before making a decision, we will be waiting another two years to see the second. This way they can get everyone signed up, write scripts and go into production.

I also bet that Season 1 ends on some kind of cliffhanger that would need resolving.

If Season 1 bombs, they just pull the plug and end it with Season 2.

But I notice other shows outside of Trek also does it. I think Velma and That 90's Show was sort of like that as well as two examples.

Yeah, the current version of Doctor Who had two seasons filmed before the first even aired.

But now there's a question over renewing for a third, which is a whole other thread.

But Star Trek use to do 26 episodes a season and older shows use to do even way more than that. Like in the 30's.

And it was a chore.

Just because it was done in the past doesn't make it more enjoyable. Info rewatches of older shows and I regularly skip ten in a season. It's not fun to try and go through every single episode.
