Now here's the question..... if the Amish of Star Trek were still into the shunning of technology, would they be willing to take a Starship and form an Amish colony on some god forsaken planet?

This thread has me thinking about the techno-Amish society on Stargate Atlantis. Granted, that's not entirely accurate, they operated a non-technological farming community on the surface of their planet as a front to hide the technologically advanced society living underground. The Amish comparison only came up when Sheppard and McKay first found the energy signatures from the underground city and their conversation went something like:
Sheppard: Is it worth looking into?
McKay: It's radioactive on an Amish planet. Your call.

So in theory they could live in a house,drive a car if they are rented and watch tv shows and movies but only if they are pirated. The perfect loophole to embrace modern living yet also not break any of the Amish rules.

no, someone else would have to drive the car. and you'd have to watch someone else's tv at their house. But as HotRod noted there are local variations to strictness.

But if you rent something your not really owning something. Also if you pirate something your stealing something technically. So no official ownership would be involved.
