News Starfleet Academy Coming to P+

Young actors will work for peanuts.

Last I heard, S31 was being retooled as a movie.

Could work as a standalone movie. Or possibly a mini series.

I'd probably watch it if Michelle were involved, but other than that I can't say that either the S31 series/movie or the Starfleet Academy pitches particularly excite me. I'd rather they just spin off a Titan series from Picard - Keep Shaw/Seven/La Forge and stay in the TNG era. The 32nd century really doesn't appeal to me at all.

This could make for a good show, particularly if Starfleet Academy is just being re-established after DIS S4 and it's not as institutionally powerful or secure as in the TNG era.

Meh. I don’t get this fascination with doing a show about that. I want them in space

I'm sure they'll spend a large portion of the time in space. But setting it on Earth (or on whatever planet is the Federation capital these days) will probably also let them save money.

This feels like it's retreading what Prodigy's already doing.

Eh, maybe? I mean, Prodigy is doing a coming-of-age story for a tweenage/young-teen audience, and Starfleet Academy would presumably be designed for older teens and young adults. PRO is going for the 10-to-13 audience base and SFA will probably go for the 16-to-25 audience base.

When Heather Ledger was announced as The Joker in The Dark Knight, 'fans' were furious, said they wouldn't watch it, things like that.....

which proves people judge things so easily without having even seen it....

Just give SA a fair chance..!

Dump Shaw.

The man is a cad.

I'll check it out for sure.

More Trek is always a good thing -- but I think more VARIETY in Trek is just as important. Some may not like this era of Star Trek and the administration behind it, but, you cannot fault them for trying different things and taking pretty big swings at new ideas. I, for one, hope it works and look forward to seeing it. If it's not for me, then I won't watch it. I'll move on. It's that simple.

It's not like the Berman era where it was the same people behind every show.

I'll watch it, but, i'm hovering at 0.01% enthusiasm after Tilly's cadet episode, which was Horrendous..

new enemy that threatens both the Academy and the Federation itself.

Oh.. joy.. 32nd century galaxy ending thing is still a thing.. :brickwall:

god.. wish they stuck it in the Enterprise Era.. ugh.

I was telling a friend this the other day. I started to really think about the type of Star Trek fan that I am.

It's got to the point with me now where the premise of the show doesn't mean anything to me anymore. That's not what you need to sell me on watching Star Trek. I'll watch Star Trek because it's STAR TREK. I'm a Star Trek fan through and through and I'll support my franchise. Sure, I'll make one exception in that I got very excited for Strange New Worlds because of the premise, but, that's really the only time. If the show is well-written, well-performed and features good characters and good stories, then I'll be happy.

But again, if it's not - then I won't watch it. There are other Star Trek shows in production out there that I like just fine and will continue to watch.

n
.

Absolutely horrendous. None of the cadets seemed likable. I hope they don’t use the ones from that episode. I actually like Tilly. Her absence from Disco brought bad seasons down even more.

Right there with ya. I've got nothing against Discovery as a whole, but Tilly AND the 32nd century are probably my two least favorite things about the show. This upcoming series, if it stars Tilly, will be the first Trek I'll have to actually force myself to watch. I mean, new Star Trek is better then No Star Trek........ I guess there's always a chance it will be great.... guess we'll see.
