Former teacher here...you are absolutely wrong. Deep disrespect by students toward teachers is quite common these days, even with teachers who do all the right things. I don't miss it.Not in a teacher-student context. And what about the attention part?

Maybe it is in postmodern Western societies (and specially in certain problematic communities). In most parts of the world, societies have a very different attitude towards respect.
