Star Wars: Why didn't we see any wreckage from the droids in Eps4 - 6?

ReadyAndWilling

Fleet Captain
first i want to say that i'm a star trek guy, i'm not a big fan of star wars. i enjoy the sci fi elements and the action, but the fantasy is just a huge turn off.

ok, so i asked this question in another thread and nobody seemed to have an answer so i felt the question deserved its own thread. with all those millions and millions of droids we saw in eps 1-3, why didn't we even see just one droid in eps 4-6?

someone mentioned the droids were re-activated in an animated storyline. is that true? i'd love to see some action, even if it was an animated show. what's something i can check out?

wasn't there supposed to be three trilogies? be awesome to see another trilogy. could this perhaps be the big announcement that lucas will be releasing shortly?

Re: Star Wars: Why didn't we see any wreckage from the droids in Eps4

Short answer, eps 1-3 were made after 4-6, so they didn't know to put droid wreckage in 4-6. Or at least not the full extent of the details, since I think I've heard somewhere that he has all three trilogies, 9 movies, written.

Re: Star Wars: Why didn't we see any wreckage from the droids in Eps4

Real-world answer: The battle droids were invented, in-universe continuity be damned, so the Jedi would have masses of things that weren't living creatures to cut up and dismember.

In-universe answer: it was the Will of the Force that the Emperor order the clones to wipe out all traces of those things that brought him to pow- oh, I don't give a crap. :p

Re: Star Wars: Why didn't we see any wreckage from the droids in Eps4

The rebellion hadn't had a victory for 20 years. A droid army may have helped, but considering Palpatine was in charge of both, he went with what he felt was the more superior force.

Re: Star Wars: Why didn't we see any wreckage from the droids in Eps4

Wasn't the droid army tied in with the separatist movement who, at least in public, Palpatine worked to establish was a threat to the republic? I am fuzzy on the details because I haven't see 1-3 in awhile, but I seem to recall the droids being associated with the old order and the clones were supposed to represent the new strong Republic under Palpatine. That's why there was so much anti-droidness in 4-6 and why the soldier droids were probably all dismantled for scrap to create the Death Star.

Re: Star Wars: Why didn't we see any wreckage from the droids in Eps4

We do know that there is at least some kind of anti-droid mentality on the part of the public in the Original Trilogy. In Episode 4, when they first enter the bar on Tatoonine, the bartender is adamant that the droids must leave because they "don't serve their kind here."

I can imagine that after living through a galaxy spanning war where droids were the enemy, they wouldn't want any droids, of any kind, around. Add to that the fact that Palpatine deliberately got the public to fear droids and it's reasonable that not many people would want to associate with them.

Re: Star Wars: Why didn't we see any wreckage from the droids in Eps4

I don't know why we would see wreckage. What locations were there in 4-6?

Tattooine - There weren't any battles on that world afaik so there wouldn't be any droids there.

The planet that the Rebels had their base (Dantooine? I can't remember), and we only really saw the base, so they would have cleared out any previous wreckage to make room for their own wreckage I guess.

Alderaan got blown up.

The Death Star was new so droids probably never stepped onto it.

Hoth, again, we only saw the rebel base.

Dagobah, only saw Yoda's place and presumably that's quite secluded so I doubt there were any battles there.

Lando's complex, again why would any droids have ever stepped on there, and if they had any wreckage would have long been cleaned up.

Then in ROTJ you have what, Tattooine again in Jabba's palace and his boat, Death Star II, Endor's moon and the base on that moon.

So we never really saw any places where droid wreckage would be.

As for why the Empire didn't use droids anymore well stormtroopers were supposed to be better.

Are there any robots or cyborgs in Days Of Our Lives?

Droids were capable of hitting what they shot at.

Stormtroopers ...

:)

Re: Star Wars: Why didn't we see any wreckage from the droids in Eps4

The Rebellion reused them, that's why there was such a quick victory, we just never saw it.

Re: Star Wars: Why didn't we see any wreckage from the droids in Eps4

It's a big galaxy. There could still be some small battle droid units operating on worlds here and there for private companies and individual businessmen, but I believe that after the Clone Wars, the vast majority of them were decommissioned, dismantled, and melted down, IMO.

Re: Star Wars: Why didn't we see any wreckage from the droids in Eps4

Considering all the nutty storylines, that actually doesn't surprise me at all.

..because everywhere we saw in 4-6 existed in the outer rim or outside former Republic jurisdiction, so no war was fought on those worlds. The point of eps. 4-6, was that the Rebels are on the run and can't enter Republic/Empire space. Nobody lives on Hoth, Yavin, Dagobah or Endor. These were worlds with no Republic representation, so there was no reason to fight to win that world. Part of the point of the prequels was to shows all the worlds the Rebellion couldn't go too. It shows due to the war, all that they lost. Hoth was the last world they could go too. If you notice by "Jedi", all that's left of the Rebellion is just a convoy of ships.

Lando's complex, again why would any droids have ever stepped on there, and if they had any wreckage would have long been cleaned up.

In "Empire" when Lando is giving Han & Leia a tour, they ask about why the Empire isn't in control of Bespin.
He tells them that Bespin falls outside Republic/Empire jursidiction. Bespin was an independent contracted world.

yea, i dunno, the whole thing seems flimsy when analyzed slightly.

i dunno, i always thought the droids were better. no sense of fear of death or pain.

I had always assumed that was because droids would take up space and not buy any drinks.

Re: Star Wars: Why didn't we see any wreckage from the droids in Eps4

I think that most of the rest of the posters here nailed the major reasons why we didn't see any of them in Eps 4-6. As far as the EU is concerned, in "Dark Lord", the main characters encountered (and used) some deactivated battle droids and droid-controlled ships against the Empire to help them escape capture on two occasions.

The real question is where all Panzer tank wreckage is in Beverly Hills: 90210. I don't think you see a single one!

I suppose that's possible. :techman: But I always did assume it was because they were prejudiced against droids.
