Star Wars: The Clone Wars 2x14 Duchess of Mandalore

Moral: "In war, truth is the first casualty."

On Coruscant, word reaches Duchess Satine that Death Watch is mobilizing, sparking a pre-emptive Republic invasion. On the run from Republic authorities, Satine and Obi-Wan set off to discover the group's true motives.

This episode airs February 12, 2010 at 9pm est on Cartoon Network.

That little place where Satine and Obi-Wan met up while on the lamb was based on one of Ralph McQuarrie's more beautiful concept paintings of Coruscant. Supposedly the very top of the highest mountain on the Planet, and the only bit of the surface not covered with cityscape.

Pretty good episode. I was distracted while watching it, so I'll have to see it again to get the full effect, but I saw those visuals out of the corner of my eye and grew ecstatic.

I thought that was GREAT! It had an absolutely amazing cinematical feel to it, particularly Coruscant at night. The Mandalorian army gathering was impressive too...I sincerely hope this isn't the last we see of them. I enjoyed the Senate scenes as well (Palps was NOT happy at the end) and it was good to see Padme play a prominent role and not get kidnapped.

-This was a Satine episode and she faired very well in the second half. But God, when she was railing against Obi-Wan, I was hoping he would throw her off the landing platform. She's still the worst kind of pacifist.

-Loved the bit with the clones questioning the Hammerhead.

-Mas Amedda appears and Mon Mothma too!

-Love that bit with Padme staring at Obi-Wan and Satine. She should have said "Geez, Anakin wasn't kidding. Get a room, you two!"

-Only complaint...why didn't the Mando take his first shot at Satine? I could see trying to kill the more dangerous of the twp but still....

Great, great episode and story arc. Here's hoping we see more of it.

Not a bad conclusion to the 3-parter. Lots of political intrigue and nuance -- I was very interested by the inclusion of the idea that the big powerful nation trying to intervene in force for the "protection" of the smaller nation would alienate its people and make them turn to a small extremist movement. It's a lesson the US could've stood to learn many times in its modern history. And we get a more balanced portrayal of pacifists than we've gotten in the past on this show; if anything, this time it's the peaceful approach that proves correct.

We get more detail on Coruscant and the Senate too, some interesting bits of worldbuilding. I liked the effect of all the Senate members watching their own small holograms of Deputy Minister Jerec at the same time. And we got to see some of how Coruscant's police force operates.

I noticed that the Death Watch assassin was voiced by Dee Bradley Baker, the voice of the Clone Troopers. I was wondering if that meant he might be Jango Fett, but I guess Jango died in Episode II, so it couldn't be. Odd casting choice, then.

Depends. After all Boba is a clone, even be one that is, supposedly, nothing more than a young copy of Jango and not designed for accelerated aging. Who's to say, with all the other changes to known "canon" that Boba hasn't been growth accelerated in the wake of his father's death.

I found this episode very middling. Nothing particularly stood out about it. I'm disappointed how this Mandalorian storyline is really wussifying them.

Depends. After all Boba is a clone, even be one that is, supposedly, nothing more than a young copy of Jango and not designed for accelerated aging. Who's to say, with all the other changes to known "canon" that Boba hasn't been growth accelerated in the wake of his father's death.

Hmmm, don't know, kind of makes sense (from a certain point of view). Luke always called him Ben though and that's what I grew up thinking that Obi-Wan was a nickname and it's funny how you never question what you grew up with sometimes but I could see that either way.

For some reason I had trouble posting that. Whatever the case, I agree. That exchange made the whole scene even funnier.

I like what they did with the Mandos. If we never saw them again on the show, I would be disappointed. But I suspect they'll be back...and in greater numbers.

Like I said, this episode felt very cinematical to me and epic in its own way. Another half hour would have been even better.

It seems to me that Ben must be an alias he adopted when he went underground on Tatooine. I guess "Kenobi" must be a common enough surname that he didn't feel the need to change it. (But then, he was pretty lousy about hiding, seeing as how he let Luke keep the name Skywalker and grow up on Darth Vader's home planet!)

Nonsense. It takes far more strength and courage to stand up for peace even at the risk of one's own life than it does to pick up a gun and end someone else's life. Jesus, Gandhi, Dr. King, and other such champions of nonviolence are among the bravest men in history.

^^ Yeah, the official site lists him as Obi-Wan (Ben) Kenobi but when I was growing up the action figure was Ben (Obi-Wan) Kenobi.

Reading a recent book (I know they aren't canon) seemed to suggest that most people knew Obi-Wan as simply "Ben." Only a handful (like Luke and the Lars) knew him as Ben Kenobi.

Adding to yours, why didn't the flying security camera post an alert when Satine was being shot at? The Mando starting firing right after it spotted her...It could NOT have not noticed the ruckus.
