Star Wars: The Clone Wars 2x11 Lightsaber Lost

Ahsoka enlists the help of an ancient Jedi to recover her lightsaber, which was stolen by a pickpocket.

January 22, 2010 at 9pm est on Cartoon Network.

A nice change of page episode. I like the extended remake of the speeder chase sequence from AOTC. From this episode it looks like they might be taking Ahsoka down the dark side path after all! I liked the old Jedi Master too.

This was a fun episode. Not the best episode but still good.

-I like that this episode took place away from The Clone Wars. I don't think it's a bad idea to do an episode like that once in a while.

-We learn Anakin lectures Ahsoka about losing her lightsaber, just like Obi-Wan used to do with him.

-Terra was a fun character and the lightsaber in a cane bit was just plain awesome.

-A major highlight of this episode was getting to see more of Coruscant. Coruscant has always been one of the best environments in SW, whether in the movies, the cartoon, or the books so it's always good to see more of it.

-Loved the Orwellian holovid-board of Palpatine.

-Also loved the bit at the end with Ahsoka teaching the younglings in a great callback to AOTC.

-So, Ahsoka went into the slum districts dressed in a tube top? Anyone find that a litte ironic?

I say next week, bring on the Mandolorians!

NOTE: Ahsoka did give off a dark side vibe during that interrogation...

The old Jedi was awsome. Despite his advanced aged he was still very formitable. I dont like the idea of Tano going to the dark side at all. I imagine she will sacrifice herself to save somebody.

A cloneless episode of The Clone Wars.

It was pretty decent, though a lot of jumping and hopping around roof tops and vehicles in a manner than makes me think Mace Windu could've survived his fall from that window in ROTS. I mean, one of the people in this chase wasn't even a Jedi or force user. What is the gravity like on Coruscant?

Odd that Coruscant uses droids for police, given that other security roles outside the Seperatist forces have been filled by lifeforms.

Some familiar old aliens and interesting new aliens. Not sure about bike shorts chick...but Ahsoka wears a tube top, as mentioned.

The comments about the aquatic alien could be seen as racist. Which adds a realism to the episode. :p

Yeah but Mace had just been lit up like a Christmas tree so I don't think he could have done much.

They explained away the thief as being a member of some kind of "alien jumper" race.

I liked the designs of the aliens and their personalities. I could picture a younger Lori Petty as the runner. Running through Coruscant allowed for some interesting visuals such as the elevated train and TV billboards. Made a nice change of pace to some of the board the ship episodes.

The older Jedi master was nicely done as well, with just this one episode (don't remember seeing him before at least) it established his personality quite nicely and I liked his crafty, reflective nature.

Not bad, though there was some awkward writing at the start. Why in the world would Anakin not give Ahsoka the basic exposition about their mission until they actually reached their destination? Surely he would've told her all this before they left. It was the worst kind of "lecture to the audience" writing -- all it was missing was "As you know, Ahsoka..." at the start. And what made it even more ridiculous was that it came immediately after the opening narration. Why not just have the Narrator give us the exposition instead of using this painfully trite device?

Beyond that, though, it was pretty good, although I have a hard time believing a) that Anakin would fail to notice Ahsoka was missing her lightsaber and b) that Ahsoka couldn't have just used Force telekinesis to snatch the saber back from Cassie. But the chase through Coruscant's "streets" was quite good -- I liked the parkour-ish stuff -- and Tera Sinube was a pretty good character (though every beat between him and Ahsoka was entirely predictable from the moment we saw her impatience with this slow old Jedi). Interestingly, Sinube was played by Greg Baldwin, who's better known as a voice double for the late Mako in Avatar: The Last Airbender, TMNT, and elsewhere.

Even though this wasn't presented in the episode, in my mind, I thought maybe he did and didn't say anything because this was his way of seeing how well his lesson had sunk in because she did get her lightsaber back.

No worse than some of the fan dribble I've read...

I thought it was a pretty good episode. It was nice to take a break from the war and see more of Coruscant. Actually, I think that that's the most we've really seen of the city-planet since AOTC and it was nice to see some new and exotic characters introduced to the saga. I'm not a huge Ashoka fan (I don't really dislike her per se but I don't really miss her if she's gone from an episode or two either) but I liked how they had her going through a bit of a "trial" and learning a valuable lesson at the end- which she is then asked by Yoda to pass along to the younglings at the end (nice touch:techman:). I was wondering why Senube wasn't on the Jedi Council given his age and obvious wisdom. What race is he, anyway? I don't think I've seen an alien like him (or the thieves either).

Next week, bring on the Mandos!!!!

Agreed.

I don't watch this show since I could never get into it, but I caugh this episode and quite enjoyed it.

Loved the Orwellian holovid-board of Palpatine.
The first thing I thought of was Blade Runner.

I was wondering why Senube wasn't on the Jedi Council given his age and obvious wisdom.
Maybe he prefers the simple life.

Not all Jedi decide to go onto the Jedi Council. We've seen a few older and wise Jedi who were not members (Jocasta Nu for example).

What race is he, anyway? I don't think I've seen an alien like him

He is a Cosian.

(or the thieves either).

Cassie is described as a Terellian.

I was just watching ROTS again the other day and Jedi have to be selected to be on the Council. Maybe Sinube had never been selected, refused to join the Council for whatever reason, or had been a former member of the Council. I've never seen anything saying it has to be a life-long assignment.

As for the episode itself, I really enjoyed it. It was a nice change of pace and I liked the pairing of Ashoka with Sinube, because it taught her a lesson about how to do things differently and still get the same or better results. It was a nice contrast, and I'm a sucker for new Jedi anyway. I had assumed that Anakin knew about the lightsaber and was thinking that he would mention it later on after Ashoka returned, but I guess not. But I did like how he took on the Obi Wan role in AOTC.

I too was a little surprised that they used police droids on Coruscant. Then again, maybe the droids just supplement the force. Or maybe the humans and aliens have joined the Republic forces in such numbers that Coruscant security has to rely on droids?

All in all a good episode. But after seeing countless advertisements for next week, I'm anxious to see the Mandalorians too.

a) Anakin may be very powerful, but he isn't known for being the most observant Jedi in the order, IMO (Obi-Wan might agree).

b) Ahsoka's still a padawan would be my guess. Her Force-control skills may not be that good yet, especially against a moving target.

Why were there security droids on Coruscant? So the thief could slice up cops with a lightsaber on a kids show. ;)

But she was able to yank that pipe out of its fittings from dozens of meters away. On the train, Cassie was much closer to Ahsoka and was holding the saber still against her hostages' necks. It seems to me that would've been easier by comparison. Okay, at that point maybe Ahsoka didn't want to risk slipping and killing the hostages, but still, it seems inconsistent. (Unless activated lightsabers create some kind of Force interference. Given that they seem to be used preferentially and almost exclusively by Jedi, I've often wondered if they have some resonance or connection with the Force.)

Exactly my thought. Sometimes this show gets pretty violent, and they did have one offscreen murder here, but maybe that was as far as they were willing to take it in this particular episode.

^Good point about lightsabres - perhaps they are made out of some sort of force resistant material to prevent an enemy who is more skilled in the ways of the force from pulling it out of the wielder's hand like Vader did with Han's gun in Empire.

Not too bad an episode. Once again Ahsoka uses her abilities to physically interrogate someone, and shows her disrespectful side again as well - "gramps" ?

Well I know in the books they talk about how Jedi bond with their lightsabers and develop an affinity for it so they're much better using their own than someone else's. Each Jedi constructs their own lightsaber.
