Star Wars Rebels Season One (spoilers)

I'm really liking Rebels so far, but it seems I'm going against the prevailing opinion in that I'm not excited about Ahsoka and the clones showing up. Considering I dropped out of CW early on, I have no idea about their backstory or why they're there. Last I saw, Ahsoka was some kid hanging around with Anakin, and then the clones went and killed most of the Jedi. Beyond that, I'm thoroughly confused.

It covers a lot of ground from the Jedi, Sith, independents, Seperatists, Republic, Clones, Mandelorians, even a chance that some of the clones didn't follow Order 66.

Ashoka grew up a lot during the Clone Wars. Was even doing missions without Skywalker by the last year of the war.

Mind you there are over 100 episodes (and potentally more coming as they've been releasing episodes that are fully voiced, sound effects, and music, yet were only in the test animation phases.)

You should give TCW another go. I don't know how early you quit, but it actually turned out to be kind of awesome (and I'm not even that big of a Star Wars fan).

So go back and watch The Clone Wars. You'll thank us all later. ;)

Short non-spoiler version though: we don't know what happened with Rex during Order 66 (though it's hinted he may have had pre-warning) and we only have a vague idea what Ahsoka was up to at the time. So you're not that much more in the dark than the rest of us.

I'm with you.

Ashoka was that annoying girl that hung around with Anakin.

At this point, all you need to know is that she's the Rebel operative that Hera's been reporting to. Anything else relevant to Rebels will surely be explained in the new season. After all, the show's viewpoint characters (other than Hera) don't know anything more about Ahsoka than you do. They'll have to learn what they need to know, and viewers will learn it along with them.

After all, Rebels is on a different network than The Clone Wars and aimed at a younger demographic, so the producers know full well that a large percentage of its viewers have no idea who Ahsoka is and little to no knowledge of TCW's storylines. The show is still going to be written mainly for viewers like you.

Thanks guys. And Christopher, I really hope you're right about the exposition. Because watching 100+ CW episodes and raising 3 kids? Ain't nobody got time for that! :D

You say that like they're mutually exclusive activities. ;)

It might be important to know that Ahsoka left the Jedi Order at the end of the season five finale.

Does anyone know if David Oyelowo will be back as Agent Kallus in Season 2? His kinda huge now, and probably won't be having trouble getting work in movies which won't leave a lot of time for voice acting.

Well, voice acting takes very little time; you can record several episodes' worth in a couple of hours, and you don't even need to be in the same room with the other actors, so you can slot it in whenever you have a spare moment. So that wouldn't necessarily preclude his involvement, assuming he was still affordable for the show.

Wasn't he already starting to get popular by the time the show started?

Well, it takes a long time to produce animation, so there's quite a long lag time between when the actors record their roles and when the episodes air. For instance, Ian Abercrombie's last episode as Palpatine in The Clone Wars aired more than two years after his death. So if Oyelowo's rise in his prominence is something that's happened within the past year (this is the first I've heard of it, so I don't know), then that was probably after the voice recording for season 2 was completed.

Season One drops Sept. 1st on physical media. There aren't many details but it does state that it will run 450 minutes. I'm trying to figure out if that includes the premiere, Spark of Rebellion as it was released previously. My hope would be that they would include the "Prologue Version" as it was not included on the previous release. I can't imagine they would start this release with Droids in Distress... would they? I guess that's what The Clone Wars release was like.

Hopefully it's all there. Including the 4 shorts that lead into the series.
