Star Wars Rebels Season One (spoilers)

On that note, what the heck is a battlestar supposed to be? :p

The Colonials had battlestars, the Cylons had base stars. In that universe, it was the term for the largest class of warships, the carriers and command platforms. Same logic as "Death Star," come to think of it, though probably arrived at independently. Larson wanted the terminology to sound exotic and alien, and probably somewhat mythological.

Another nomenclatural oddity in Galactica is using "Colonies" in the name of a sovereign nation. But they seemed to base their cultural identity on their origin as colonies of Kobol, so I guess they kept the name for sentimental reasons.

Anyone else noticed that Rebels has a vague similarity to Bucky O' Hare :)

You do know what the :p smiley means, right? :p

Episode 6 was pretty awesome. A new character has been introduced who may or may not come under the tutelage of The Inquisitor.

Moreover, I just found out that Hera is my favorite character. (And, yes, it's probably due to her being a Twi'lek).

Absolutely loved Breaking Ranks. The basic idea may not have been the most original, but it was still executed really well and had a lot of cool little moments. And I especially loved all the ROTJ-style cutting back and forth between action sequences at the end.

And (very small spoiler) it was a ton of fun seeing Chopper go undercover as an Imperial droid as well. :D

This show just seems to be getting better and better. I was slightly worried after the overly cartoonish Fighter Flight, but it's starting to look like that was just an aberration.

A bit of a filler episode, but a good filler episode. Certainly much better than ep 3.

Was nice to see some larger ship combat for a change, even if it was only small cruisers. And ships flying in formation? In Star Wars? That's different. :)

And another obscure old SW reference. I wonder if they meant the Kyber crystal, or the Kaiburr crystal?

Is it me, or does there seem to be a real shortage of discussion online for the show? Certainly not the buzz their was about TCW. Its a real concern since I'd hate to see the show not make it past season 2.

In regards to the crystal,
it's interesting because it factors heavily into The Crystal Crisis on Utapau story reels revealed last month focused on a 4-part story involving the Kyber(sp?) crystals and foreshadowed their usage in the Death Stars. The story featured a giant sized crystal that, unlike many natural ones used to make lightsabers, were created artificially for the purposes of mass weaponization.

Having not seen those TCW episodes just recently I feel like I would have been a little lost without the importance of the crystals in context. These TCW episodes were recently released and considered canon by Disney despite being unfinished and are said to have been intended for release early in the show's seventh season. As an aside, the reels were far more complete than I expected and were a wonderful treat. Think Reboot without moving lips or legs. Just don't expect to view them from StarWars.com's buggy video streaming site without issue - YouTube was far more reliable for viewing.

Save your leftover Hallowe'en candy for the next SW:Rebels... it looks to be a spooky one! Out of the Darkness is the fifth episode and looks to feature Sabine and Hera ~ I'm hoping exclusively ~ explore an abandoned Republic base.

There is an image gallery here and a video clip which was revealed some time ago for the upcoming episode: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GojKREH34mw

Yeah I've been kinda wondering that too. The only real discussion I'm seeing online is just over whether people think the show is any good or not, and over the quality of animation (yes, still).

But to be fair, TCW had years of episodes and continuity for people to discuss, as well as the immediate impact the stories had on the surrounding prequel movies. Rebels is only just getting started, and exists in a time period that isn't nearly as well-defined.

Thankfully the ratings still look to be really good (especially among the all important little kids), so it shouldn't matter too much whether the adults are discussing the show or not.

Correcting my last post:

I think the pilot was two episodes at one point(???), so the currently episode - 'Out of Darkness' - would be #6. However, I could be remembering incorrectly, so technically 'Darkness' is the fifth episode; the one I'm currently up to, and the one I'm personally looking forward to.

Y'know what they should have done? Made the "pilot movie" comprised of the 2 pilot episodes and Rise of the Old Masters. That would have really hooked new viewers. I still find it a tad ridiculous to call a 45 minute a "movie".

It even works pretty well as a single piece, since the pilot ends with the Inquisitor being called in.

Actually it seems as though they aren't counting the 2 part premiere feature as 1 and 2, so Droids in Distress is considered #1. I know, it's confusing. Droids in Distress could arguably be #2 if you count the premiere as one episode, or #3 if you count Spark as two. But nope. :techman:

Season One (Known so far)

Spark of Rebellion - S01E00
Droids in Distress - S01E01
Fighter Flight - S01E02
Rise of the Old Masters - S01E03
Breaking Ranks - S01E04
Out of Darkness - S01E05
Empire Day - S01E06
Gathering Forces - S01E07

And there are a total of 16 episodes in the first season. Source: Star Wars Insider

Is it just me, or does every episode start with "you've passed the first test"? What's the point?
Thanks
That fluff is a byproduct of streaming from the Disney XD App.

At this time, nothing is known about either Empire Day or Gathering Forces. I'm hoping Empire Day might offer some insight into the recruitment process of the empire. Gathering Forces may have something more to do with Organa... on the other hand we may not see him again until the end of the season. But hopefully not. They only have five years to build the Rebel Alliance. I would expect Mon Mothma and/or Ackbar to show up before too long.

I can't figure out how Lando/Cloud City will figure into all of this...

Sigh, just when I thought I had the episode numbering system figured out too!

Oh well, think I'll just stick to referring to the episodes by name instead.

The Storm Trooper Academy: not teaching youngers how to aim since 25 BBY.

I was thinking that too. The training looks pretty damn rigorous early on. Yet Stormtroopers suck pretty hard in combat. Maybe the good students go to work from the Inquisitor, and the losers get sent to Stormtrooper school. :)

I think we get that in lieu of proper opening credits.

Stormtrooper at this point are more or less Military Police. They generally don't need to use their combat skills since the armor and numbers are enough to cow most planets into submission.

Long gone are the days of the Grand Army of the Republic. Only a few units are actually skilled. The 501st, but that is only because Darth Vader uses them all the time against hot spots and planetary invasions. The rest are glorified cops with blast resistant armor and backup of the largest military force in the galaxy that can use Base Delta Zero on planets instead of trooper skills. Basically level everything on the planet from orbit and cleanup any survivors.

I suspect 'Empire Day' might have something to do with Kanan and Order 66. That's based on the assumption that "Empire Day" is the anniversary of the Empire's founding, which was the same day of Windu's failed attempt to arrest Palpatine and Order 66 being issued. Kenobi's warning message probably went out the very next day (locally) after the recall signal was disabled.
