Star Wars: Prequel Trilogy DVD set - available on November 4th, 2008

Re: Star Wars: Prequel Trilogy DVD set - available on November 4th, 20

This is probably just a final DVD push before the whole saga's released on Blu-ray (which will likely be within the next year or two).

From what I hear, the original trilogy is almost unwatchable on HD. In some places, you can actually see the different tones of black paint used on Darth Vader's helmet.

You know what THAT means!!!!

Yep - Little Georgie is going to get his CGI crayon set out YET AGAIN and start colouring in things like Vader's helmet and R2/s blue patches!!!

Let the foaming of the unwashed basement dwellers begin!!!!!

Oh, dear God.

I personally wouldn't cast Hartley in anything, just pointing him out as someone they'd go for.

Personally, I would go with Jonathan Jackson, who should've gotten the Anakin role. But oh well,

So long as such a job would be respectful and non-intrusive, like Adywan's SW Revisited, I'd have no problem with that.

God, that was awesome. I can't wait for TESB Revisited.

Heh, I regret paying for my cinema tickets. I wouldn't even watch Lucas' special effects reels if they were free.

That's it, then. Time to remake the OT!
I'm convinced that somewhere in Lucasfilm that exact ideal is/has been seriously considered. That one and "Hey, let's redo the OT....in animation!"

^ A very good fan edit of Episode IV. He kept the good stuff from Lucas's remastered version but ditched crap like Greedo shooting first. I actually just watched it last weekend and it was great.

The HD experience is cool but off-putting. In the ROTJ daylight scenes on Endor, the difference is so stark that the footage looks like something lifted from a 'Making Of...' documentary.

I'd buy Return Of The Jedi again if he fixed that mike worm (or whatever it is) on the emperor, and the Lightsabre (lack of) shadows at the end of the duel. Both really distract me, and shouldn't be hard to fix really.

Deleted scenes would be amazing.

It's Christmas shopping season. Makes perfect sense that they'd put this out now.

I wish he'd put up the more conservative version (without all the extra music and attempts to outdo ILM by replacing whole sections of the Battle of Yavin with his own all-new shots) in an anamorphic version.

I'm waiting for the "special editions" where Lucas goes back into the movies and replaces the CGI with practical effects and locations. :p
That's fantastic! I'm stealing that for my sig.

Not only that, but he went in and fixed a lot of the visual effects and other problems that Lucasfilm didn't bother to deal with in the SEs. It all looks very professional.

I don't. I liked how he fit The Imperial March into the movie (though I wish he'd used a planet that didn't look so similar to Alderaan), and I liked the added TIE Fighters to give a bigger sense of scale to the battle.

Two of my favorite additions were actually having the Millennium Falcon pull some maneuvers during the escape from Tatooine, and adding in hyperspace during the scene when the gang is traveling from the Death Star to Yavin. He actually put a blue filter in there to highlight hyperspace's effect on the lighting inside the ship (I wasn't expecting that, and it looked great).

^I'm going to have to re-watch it. I started watching it at one in the morning after several gin and tonics and probably didn't pick up on everything. :alienblush:

Takes all kind, I guess. I hated the new TIE intro (it didn't help that the original, with them spiraling in diagonally, was one of my favorite shots in the battle), and I thought that most of the added music had the very special problems you get when you repurpose score and all of the subtle beats completely fail to match the action. And I really, really wanted to like Battle of the Heroes being added in, but it was just way, way too bombastic for such a small swordfight. Now, if he could talk John Williams (or a musically talented friend with a very good MIDI rig) into making new arrangements of those basic themes that matched what was going on in the scene (I can imagine a smaller, slower, more somber (maybe a little wistful) version of Battle of the Heroes for the Obi-Wan/Vader fight), then it would've played a lot better.

Worse is that there are still very clear matte boxes around most of the spaceships. This is something that easily could have been fixed back in 1997! What gives?!

Although, the ships in A New Hope just look funny in general now because they did such a poor job matching the new Special Edition effects from 1997 with the old model shots from 1977.

Also, there's a certain uniformity to the brightness & thickness of the lightsaber blades in the prequels and in Return of the Jedi that is completely lacking in A New Hope & The Empire Strikes Back. I'd like to see them redo the rotoscoping on that.

Re: Star Wars: Prequel Trilogy DVD set - available on November 4th, 20

how do i see that Adywan's SW Revisited thing? I'm really not much wanting to use torrents.
Please help
