Star Wars Kinect

Anyone interested in this title? Haven't really been following it, but apparently it's close to being released...some of the initial responses seems to be in the "meh" category, but being the Star Wars fan I am...I am naturally curious.

Call me crazy, but I like being able to move in my action games. The Kinect just wasn't intended for games like this.

You would think though that a game where the focus is lightsaber battles would be perfect for something like this.

Swinging your arms around like an idiot to simulate a lightsaber battle is only going to be fun for a couple of minutes. If the game was a $5 Xbox Live Arcade title it would be pretty cool, but it's not going to have the depth to justify a $50 price. You'll end up throwing it into a closet faster than a Wii Balance Board.

Well.....I just don't know what to say. I think I would rather play 40 hours of Jar Jar's Big Adventure, or something:

Not really, since there's no resistance -- that's the whole problem with gamers' desire for 1:1 sword fighting with motion-based gaming. Your slash is blocked, yet you followed through with the entire motion -- now what?

Not to mention that the control isn't 1:1 yet. You can't raise your sword to deflect an overhead attack and have the enemy sword deflect off it realistically, knocking him off balance, while you duck down and kick his knee with your right foot. It's more like you jerk around as if you're having a seizure praying that the game recognizes your moves and translate it into 2 or 3 different preset attacks which triggers 2 or 3 different hurt animations on the enemy.

I guess you're right. I forgot about the 1:1. The tracking resolution simply isn't there yet, and I think it will take several generations of the product to get to it, just like high-resolution mice. It's part of why I didn't get the latest Zelda, a game that relies a bit too much on precise motion when there's still too much room for error. You end up fighting more with the system.

I just watched the video. WTF? I mean - WTF? It even made the Fail Blog:

Someone please - please! - tell me this is some Gary's Mod sort of thing. Someone hacked the game so you can play as Han. And have C3PO jiving in the background. Right? Right? If not, that means in theory you can probably do this with Chewie or Darth Vader.

I normally reject the whole "George Lucas (insert adjective of choice) my childhood" thing. But if this is real I might make an exception. :barf:

(Lest you think that's a bit of an overreaction: read the lyrics to the song Han is doing the boogaloo to...)

You don't know what you're dealing with, do you? Perfect internet meme. Unclouded by forced introductions, or any delusions of Star Wars as being Serious Business.

I admire its purity.

The game is clearly designed for small children. My 6 year old son loves it, because he's the target audience. I'm a little baffled by the 40something SW fans who are enraged by this game - like most kinetic games, its meant for little kids.

I don't mind the "the resistance" factor for virtual lightsabre-ing... the no-go for me here was the "on rails shooter" platform. That's incredibly lazy for the developers.
But yes, as stated by CaptJimboJones above, it's meant for kids and that much should be obvious to those that rail against it, Comic Book Guy style.
