What are your SW films ranked favorite to least favorite?

Here are mine -
1. ESB - Hoth, bounty hunters, and the biggest twist up until that time in movies
2. ANH- the original with Mos Eisley, the Death Star, and final aerial battle.
3. ROTJ - Jabba, battle on Endor, best Jedi battle b/t Vader, Emperor, and Luke
4. ROTS - story comes full circle.
5. TPM - this one is unfairly criticized for not meeting impossible expectations. Jar Jar is not THAT bad and I actually liked the politics and of course Darth Maul.
6. AOTC - I actually get bored during this one which is hard to do in the SW universe. I liked Coruscant night club and the Kamino battle. The love scene dialogue in this one is vomit inducing.

What are yours and why?

Here's my order:
ESB- Obviously the best
ROTS
ROTJ
NH
PM
AC- I still liked this one but it had to much Anakin/Padme crap and we all know Lucas SUCKS at writing romance.

1. The Empire Strikes Back
2. A New Hope
3. Return of the Jedi
4. Revenge of the Sith
5. The Phantom Menace
6. Attack of the Clones

1. Star Wars. The original and still my favourite, for not taking itself as seriously as the later films did. Pure adventure and fun.
2. The Empire Strikes Back. Some really good stuff, but I'm not a Yoda fan.
3. Return of the Jedi. I don't like this one anywhere near as much as the first two, but even with Ewoks it beats the prequel trilogy.
4/5. Attack of the Clones/Revenge of the Sith (tie, more or less). They really look great, don't they?
6. The Phantom Menace. Jake Lloyd. Jar-Jar. Epic fail.

The Empire Strikes Back - Best film ever. Duh.
Revenge of the Sith - "I have failed you, Anakin. I have failed you." Obi Wan's arc breaks my heart, he became my favourite character in the Saga, and Ewan McGregor rules.
A New Hope - It started it all.
Return of the Jedi - Beats AOTC only for; "You failed, Your Highness. I am a Jedi, like my father before me." "So be it...Jedi." And of course the best space combat ever put to celluloid.
Attack of the Clones - Love it. Don't care what anyone says, the bad romantic dialogue was supposed to be bad romantic dialogue. Teenagers, especially sheltered teenagers with no experience of love, say stupid things. Ewan McGregor begins his reign of rule. The Clones attack and we realize the Republic becomes the Empire. Maybe I'm dumb, I had never thought of that before and Lucas actually surprised me.
The Phantom Menace - Last on the list, but still a great film. Does have bad moments, admittedly, with Jake Lloyd and poop jokes with Jar Jar, but overall Jar Jar is not as bad as people make him out to be. Liam Neeson rules before Ewan McGregor is given an opportunity to and I find the politics fascinating. When I was a kid, I actually wondered about these things. *shrugs*

you make good points. it was really hard for me to decide between RotS and ESB. Star Wars was the first one, I saw it when I was but a kid. for me, it's GOTTA be first.

1. The Empire Strikes Back-definitely the best drama and characters
2. A New Hope-fun, kind of fluffy
3. Revenge of the Sith-McDiarmid at his best
4. The Phantom Menace-Nostalgia for Jar-Jar and his sort of comic relief, Qui-Gon was a good character
5. Attack of the Clones-Some action scenes felt forced
6. Return of the Jedi-Ewoks hurt too much, as did Luke's attempt to turn back Vader and the forced pacifist ideas

ESB - How can you not love this movie? And that ending... Whew! (10/10)
ANH - Special place in my heart for this. It is a wonderful movie. (9/10)
ROTJ - Yeah, the Ewoks are cheesy but the three battles at the end rock. (7/10)
ROTS - Best of the prequels, and very close to Jedi, but its not good enough. (6/10)
AOTC - The Anakin/Padme stuff sucks, but the third act of the movie actually feels like Star Wars. (4/10)
TPM - Jar Jar... young Anakin ... yuck! The only thing that redeems this flick is Qui-Gon. (2/10)

Revenge of the Sith
Empire Strikes Back
The Phantom Menace
A New Hope
Return of the Jedi
Attack of the Clones

1. Star Wars : Episode 3 - Revenge Of The Sith - Best of all of them, really enjoyed this one, such a powerful movie
2. Star Wars : Episode 6 - Return Of The Jedi- underrated
3. Star Wars : Episode 4 - A New Hope
4. Star Wars : Episode 5 - The Empire Strikes Back
5. Star Wars : Episode 2 - Attack Of The Clones
6. Star Wars : Episode 1 - The Phantom Menace

What about Star Wars - The Clone Wars? Enjoyed that too

The Empire Strikes Back
Star Wars
Revenge of the Sith
Return of the Jedi

I don't entirely get the hate for The Phantom Menace. Back then it seemed like a pretty decent start to the new trilogy, even if it didn't resemble the old one much. It was only with the later films that it became apparent that the PT would be a disappointment overall.

^I don't hate it, I just think it's the weakest of the six films.

I will say one thing in its favour - at no point during the film was I as bored as shortly after the speeder chase in RotJ when they're all just wandering around the woods running in to Ewoks. That's my least favourite segment in the entire six films.

I think it was also because Lucas focused more on special effects and -- well kiddie stuff. It is nice to get the kids involved but man: Jar-Jar, young Anakin (especially blowing up the CIS ship), the robotic droids being comedy fodder...

It was decent but the decent parts of it were shoved under the table.

Star Wars - an awesome self-contained fun ride
ESB - a better film in most respects, but I don't find it as rewatchable
RTJ - Quite a lot wrong with it, not up to the standards of the first two, but still a good blast.
RTS - Really weird pacing and motivation issues, but it looks beautiful and has some great moments for fans of the original
TPM - An ok film, doesn't take itself quite as seriously as they next two do, I really love Destroyer Droids
AoTC - I can't forgive it for actually being boring. A Star Wars film, with all that action, has bored me to tears every time I've watched it.

Here's my Ranking
1. The Empire Strikes Back - Exciting, I couldn't wait for the next part! But the book, several months before spoiled the big surprise for me.
2. Revenge of the Sith - I got everything I wanted from this film except Jar-Jar's long splattering death scene.
3. Attack of the Clones - a bad title to a mostly good movie and was relavent to our times. It just figures that Jar-Jar would cast the deciding vote that would end the Republic! My only complaints were the chase scene on Coruscant that was too frenetic to watch and that mAnikin hadn't turned Dark and begun exterminating the Jedi by the end. I didn's see how they would be able to wrap it all up by the end of the end movie.
4. Star Wars ANH - I loved this movie, but watching it now, after the prequel trilogy, it's a bit boring. I also hate that Greedo shot first in the re-edits!
5. Return of the Jedi - In many ways this seemed like a repeat for the first movie. But there are lots of great lines in this! I would have been much better if Endor had been the home planet of the Wookies, instead of the Ewoks.
6. The Phantom Menace - Liam Neeson and Ray Park were unable to save this movie from Jar-Jar, the Pod Race, Boss Nast, the Midichlorians, and the acidental destruction of the Droid Ship by a kid (mAnikin). This movie is the reason people are unable to see how good the rest of the Prequel Trilogy is. It lowered people expectations and perceptions too much.

1.) The Empire Strikes Back
2.) A New Hope
3.) Revenge of the Sith
4.) Return of the Jedi
5.) Attack of the Clones
6.) The Clone Wars
7.) The Phantom Menace

1. The Empire Strikes Back - Probably the most focussed of all the SW movies. It knows where it comes from and it knows exactly where it's headed. The rise of the Dark Side is extremely well realized and beautifully showcased, among other things, in the Imperial March. I think it's a shame Lucas didn't take this as an incentive to let other do the directing from here on.

2. A New Hope - Simply great fun and a lovely setup for the whole saga. This one benefits from the likeable characters and the great exchanges between some of them. It's also got an epic feel to it which is in no small part due to the wonderful music IMHO. All of the major themes are already here and ready to be used effectively later on.

3. Return of the Jedi - Yeah, the Ewoks kind of suck, and the ending is somewhat over the top (especially with all the shiny, happy Jedi all reunited at the end). Still, it's fun, it's epic (in parts, anway), and it's got all the great characters.

4. Attack of the Clones - Interestingly, again, I find that the middle movie is the strongest one in the newer trilogy. It's far from perfect (especially Obi Wan's unconvincing appearance at the clone factory as well as the Jedi council) but IMHO has a lot going in its favor. In my mind, this is the only one of the prequels where the fun SW banter between characters comes into play. For the first and IMHO last time Anakin and Obi Wan actually click in some way, and it's fun to watch them tease each other. Some of the battles were also great, I thought, capably showing the scale of what was going on.

5. The Phantom Menace - This one would really benefit from a few cuts. It's got some pretty strong elements, I think, such as the portrayel of the old Republic and Palpatine (you can really feel and see why this Republic is just about to fall and why Palpatine really has such a easy time making it happen). I also really liked Darth Maul, and I think it's a shame they dropped him here. I think he should have remained at least until the next movie. What should be cut here IMHO is lots of Jar Jar (though he doesn't bother me as much as others) as well as the whole racing sequence which I just find to be incredibly boring. I also think the film should have spent less time in general on the young Anakin.

6. Revenge of the Sith - This one was a major dissapointment to me. A huge, huge editorial mess IMHO. At this point, developments should just flow but they don't. Instead, you have things like the newly born Vader cry out in anger and pain at the death of Padme, and next thing he's standing on the Star Destroyer's bridge like nothing happened. I also loathed what they did to Padme with a vengeance. She was a strong, independent character in the first two movies. And now? She can't wait to get home and start painting the kid's room. Yeah, right. Also, this one really, really undermines the feeling that the Jedi council was just a bunch of sorry, over-sensitive snobs who basically did everything to further their own demise. The only thing I found really, REALLY powerful in this movie was when the clone army turned on the Jedi. That was both believable (they were, after all, 'just following orders') as well as very well filmed IMHO.

Honestly, I'm not quite sure about numbers 5 and 6 on my list. They may belong the other way around. It's been a while since I've seen those two movies.
