Star Wars: Episode VII: The Nerd Rage Awakens

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

I think it was kind of meant to be in an in-joke of sorts, or having him play the character's father or relative. Granted the EU has Wedge coming from Correlia-Han's home planet and no relation to the Captain character (Probably the guy strangled by Vader in the original)-but Lucas probably didn't really know that.

It's mentioned I think in one of the art or making of books for the film (not sure which) as well as some contemporary interviews with Denis Lawson.

Bit of a side note but if you want to get picky, you could make the argument that there's nothing in the films that says even Han is Corellian, let alone Wedge. IIRC the only mention of the term was in reference to the Falcon.

Makes Lucas's "raised by Wookies" idea make a bit more sense if the Corellian thing was an assumption propagated by the EU.

As for Lawson; IIRC he advised his nephew not to take the part as his experience shooting Star Wars was mostly sitting around in a wooden crate talking to himself...only to have someone else dub over his lines.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

Gotta wonder too about Peter Mayhew as Chewbacca, he's required the use of a cane or wheelchair recently himself, how is that going to work in the film?

Supposedly he's much improved now, and there was a tweet he sent out of him walking without a cane, but I still can't imagine he's going to be doing much running around in the movie like he used to (which means any shots of Chewie in action will probably be done with another actor I'm guessing).

Although who knows. Maybe they could just have Han and Chewie rolling around in wheelchairs for the whole movie, since they're both in the same bad shape now. That would be pretty entertaining. :D

If I'm remembering right, the only on-screen reference to Corellia is in ANH, when Han is referring to Imperial Star Destroyers as "big Corellian ships".

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

He also turned down a chance to be in ROTS as Captain Antilles.

Would Wedge have been a starship captain 19 years before Star Wars? I tend to doubt it. AFAIK Wedge was never intended to be the "Captain Antilles" mentioned in the original film.

Also, the Antilles surname gets some mileage in the Star Wars universe. In Episode I the Alderaan candidate running against Palpatine for Supreme Chancellor is named Bail Antilles. It might be a fairly common surname in some corners of that galaxy.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

If i remember correctly, Han say the Falcon could outrun even the "big corellian ships" of the empire. It does not directly point to the ISDs but it could be interpreted that way (not by the guys writing up the EU stuff, obviously).

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

Yeah considering how hard it is in Hollywood to lock down a script that everyone agrees on, and how many different departments depend on that script, it seems highly unlikely they'd rewrite it at this stage simply because an actor broke his leg.

i mean, we're not talking about the kind of situation they're facing with the latest Fast and Furious movie here, where one of the stars died halfway through filming.

I smell some CGI trickery coming around the bend.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

Which is fine.

So long as they don't turn Han into a fake-looking character from the latest installment of Grand Theft Speeder: Mos Espa they can CGI what they need to complete his role in the film.

That would be an awesome game! :techman:

I think his wording was more os less: "I've outrun Imperial Starships. Not the local bulk cruisers mind you, I'm talking about the big Corellian ships."

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

Given all that JJ and Kennedy have said about using more practical style and techniques over CG, I think it's probably very unlikely they'll use any kind of CG replacement on their lead actor.

Especially when there are so many other tricks they can use to hide an injury.

Going to depend on what the script calls for. I still believe there is going to be a healthy helping of CGI in this movie, even before the Ford injury.

I believe the novel of the first movie refers to Solo as a Corellian. For that matter though it's the books that gave the name ofthe Ewoks since they aren't named in the movie.

You speederjack a couple of Jawas and shoot a Rodian bounty hunter on Level 1. Pretty awesome, really. The Cantina Band music plays in the background the entire time.

^Pretty sure they're named as such in Jedi's closing credits.

Also, the Boonta Eve holiday mentioned during the Podrace sequence in Episode I originally came from an episode of the mid-'80s Droids animated series, although in that episode it referred to speeder races and not podracing.
