Star Wars: Episode VII: The Nerd Rage Awakens

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

Knock one radar dish off a ship and all of a sudden it wants blood. Typical.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

So, if Ford's injury does require to film to be delayed, does anyone else kinda want to see Disney move Captain America 3 back to later in Summer 2016 and put Episode VII in its place up against Batman v Superman? I'd love to see how Warner Bros. reacts to that.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

Episodes of the Star Wars Saga are made for summer release anyways. Yeah, yeah, yeah, we know...."release dates are arbitrary and Disney has the right to want a Christmas release." That's all fine. We get it. That's the movie business. But if they did decide to delay the premiere until, say, May of 2016 my complaints would be very few and brief.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

So nobody was giving a shit about Harry breaking his leg until the news that it might delay the film. Until then you guys had been bitchin about EU stuff or whatever.

Anyone really surprised by this delay after the news? Even if it's less than 6 months he would probably need to get back into the gym and get back in shape again, you can't go right back on set after something like that.

I don't want re-writes, I don't want a wheel chair written into the story, I want to see what they planned to do from the start. It will probably be the last Star Wars film he does, another 6 months delay is nothing.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

Personally I've always associated Star Wars with Christmas rather than summer. Mostly because I'm a bit too young to have seen the original films in the cinema and my experiance with Star Wars growing up was seeing them on the telly every year. This was also at a time when they weren't on video (unless you could track down an ex-rental) so that was the only way to ever see them.

So yeah, if these new ones end up being X-Mas releases, I'll be fine with that. Indeed, it might be wise to do so as the summer blockbuster line-up may get a little crowded. I'm sure Disney doesn't want Star Wars directly competing with any of it's Marvel movies for one thing.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

A thought, assuming Disney decides to have the movie re-written and removes Han Solo, who could they replace him with? Lando, perhaps? Or Wedge?

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

Why don't they just put Han in a space-cast for the movie, and the opening space-crawl says he had a space-injury right before the space-movie space-started?

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

Until we hear something more concrete, I'm not buying into any of this too much. All we know for sure is that Harrison Ford broke his leg and needs time to recover. Everything else is rumor and speculation. We don't even know for sure how big his role in the movie is. It's entirely possible that the production can merely shuffle things around to accommodate Ford without the need to change anything in the script.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

AICN is reporting that Han Solo is the main character in the film, and the Abrams rewrite was about shifting the emphasis from the kids to the Original Trio, particularly Han.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

Yeah considering how hard it is in Hollywood to lock down a script that everyone agrees on, and how many different departments depend on that script, it seems highly unlikely they'd rewrite it at this stage simply because an actor broke his leg.

i mean, we're not talking about the kind of situation they're facing with the latest Fast and Furious movie here, where one of the stars died halfway through filming.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

Disney is not just making a movie here, they want to set up the rest of the franchise as it will play in their hands. I'm sure they won't rework their plan too much; they'd probably delay the film before they do that. They'd still make money.

I'll wait for an official press release from Disney or Lucasfilm now. I grow tired of the rumors of the delays.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

December 2015 or May 2016: it won't matter much. It'll have been at least 10-1/2 years since the last Episode in the Saga. A few more months won't change anything one way or the other, at least not for the audience.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

Regarding the Wedge thing, Denis Lawson said he'd probably find the experience 'boring' and declined to reappear. He also turned down a chance to be in ROTS as Captain Antilles. Maybe his nephew told him some horror stories about Lucas's direction.

Given that beforehand we were not going to get this film at all (Lucas kept saying no more movies after ROTS in just about every interview and then changed his mind for the Disney sale), I wouldn't mind the delay.

Gotta wonder too about Peter Mayhew as Chewbacca, he's required the use of a cane or wheelchair recently himself, how is that going to work in the film?

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

Would Wedge have been a starship captain 19 years before Star Wars? I tend to doubt it. AFAIK Wedge was never intended to be the "Captain Antilles" mentioned in the original film.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

I think it was kind of meant to be in an in-joke of sorts, or having him play the character's father or relative. Granted the EU has Wedge coming from Correlia-Han's home planet and no relation to the Captain character (Probably the guy strangled by Vader in the original)-but Lucas probably didn't really know that.

It's mentioned I think in one of the art or making of books for the film (not sure which) as well as some contemporary interviews with Denis Lawson.

Well, no, obviously Captain Antilles wouldn't actually be Wedge. Supposedly, Lucas wanted Denis Lawson to play Captain Antilles in ROTS, with the implication the Captain is Wedge's father. That could have been a potential mess, since the EU backstory establishes different people for Wedge's parents and Wedge isn't actually related to the Captain, Antilles meant to be something like the Star Wars galaxy's equivalent to Smith, a really common name. And of course, at the time the EU was some sort of nebulous semi-canon status.
