Star Wars: Episode VII: The Nerd Rage Awakens

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

Happy Star Wars Day, everyone! :techman:

I read that Lucasfilm wanted to announce their casting news today, but decided to do it ahead of time to prevent any media leaks.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

The only thing that makes me think it'll be difficult to see her as Leia again is the voice. Somehow I doubt Leia would have spent 30 years developing a nice smoker's rasp. :/

Glitterstim is a hell of a drug.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

Carrie's voice had gone by ROTJ, especially the Endor scenes.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

A happy Star Wars Day to all, whether Jedi, Sith, bounty hunter or droid!

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

Probably both.

She was a trooper and gave it her best, but her drug problems definitely took their toll on her overall performance.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

Wasn't she supposedly doing drugs during the shooting of TESB?

I wouldn't say "gone", but certainly on it's way. Regardless, it's gone quite a ways further since to the point now that I honestly can't recognise her voice as the same person. Which is fine so far as Fisher is concerned, but I think for her to play Leia like that, the difference may be quite jarring.

Not sure about drugs, but I listened to the DVD commentary on tESB the other week and she mentions how both she and Harrison were very "happy" while shooting the landing pad scene with Lando. Apparently they'd spent the previous night out with Eric Idle (who'd been shooting 'Meaning of Life' next door) and the Rolling Stones. In this context "happy" could just mean they drank so much they're still buzzed the next day...but I can't see the Stones stopping at just booze.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

I don't know, I just watched a Craig Ferguson interview with her from a few months ago, and I don't think she sounds that bad. Her voice is obviously a bit coarser and deeper now (as is Ford's and Hamill's), but I can still hear quite a bit of Leia in her.

It's not like she sounds like some 80 year old, six pack a day smoker or anything.

If there's anything that sticks out about her now, it's just how... slightly nuts and crazy she seems. Lol. And after all these years of making fun of Leia and SW, it'll be interesting to see if she can deliver her lines in the new movie and actually sound halfway sincere about it.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

Apparently she was also close friends with John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd thanks in part to being in the first Blues Brothers movie (1980), which in turn led to dabbling in many of the chemicals that members of the classic, first Saturday Night Live cast abused during their years on the show. Put simply: Carrie was around a lot of people who just happened to be using the substances she didn't need to be taking.

Now that a bunch of actors have been cast in "Star Wars: Episode VII," it's about time that the new adventure in a galaxy far, far away gets its name. According to Harry Knowles at Ain't It Cool News, J.J. Abrams' forthcoming "Star Wars" film has the working title of "The Ancient Fear," a reference to one of the film's villains, played by Max von Sydow.
HuffPost Entertainment contacted a representative for Lucasfilm to comment on the rumored title. This post will be updated if and when they respond.
Whether or not "Star Wars: Episode VII" becomes "Star Wars: Episode VII - The Ancient Fear" is unclear, but the title does slide in well among past "Star Wars" names: "Episode I - The Phantom Menace," "Episode II - Attack of the Clones," "Episode III - Revenge of the Sith," "Episode IV - A New Hope," "Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back," "Episode VI - Return of the Jedi."
For more, including what to expect from von Sydow's evildoer, head to Ain't It Cool. Whatever it's called, "Star Wars: Episode VII" is out in theaters on Dec. 18, 2015.

Sound similar to "The Creeping Fear" that was rumored to be the title of "Attack of the Clones".

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

I like it. It's sort of the flip side of "A New Hope".

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

If that should happen to be the actual episode title, it's a lot better than the rumored The Order of the Jedi that was circulated online a few days back. I wouldn't mind that one at all.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

I'm sure I could get used to it... but at the moment it's just feeling a little too schlocky for some reason. In the same way "The Phantom Menace" does, which I'm not sure is a good thing.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

So they rejected "This time he really did say strap-on"?

All the Star Wars titles are Schlocky. That's the point. They are modeled after old serials and cheesy space adventures. The safest title is the Return of the Jedi. It was safe to begin with, and was one aspect of the original films that was made better by the prequels.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

I recall (now fondly) the anger that mounted when Ep III's working title was revealed as The Creeping Fear - that title being misconstrued as the real title. People (online fans) were losing their shit - I recall one fan seriously promising to take a dump right there in the theatre seat if the film started with the words The Creeping Fear. Although trivial, it gives me a chance to rightfully say they threatened to literally lose their shit at such a crappy title!

Titles from the passage of time: Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith still sound fine, The Phantom Menace sounds out of place, but then again, so does the film itself.
