Star Wars: Episode VII: The Nerd Rage Awakens

Highly disappointed that both the midnight screenings and the first full day release at my local cinema are 3D only. Firstly, it adds 20% to the cost and, secondly, I loathe the format. So I will have to stick my head in the sand for a day and a half to ensure I go in as blind as possible.

Hugo - grumble grumble grumble

Dude, atleast you can choose. I can only watch 3-effing-D. Stupid cinemas over here don't realise people hate it and only have 3D versions of movies like this.

Wow. Whining about 3D.

OH THE HUMANITY!!!!!!!

Anyways, the way Chewie's arm sits behind Leia's head makes it look like she has an Ariana Grande style topknot.

Now I got that image in my head, I can't get it out. Ariana Organa.

If the Monday Night Football coverage starts at 5:15 local time, about what time would they probably get to half time?

I know, I know. It's one of things that I mostly just accept, but sometimes it grates me.

3D only bugs me when it is a transparent cash grab. But in the case of Star Wars VII, I know it will be worth the money.

I dunno. I have never seen a movie where the 3D actually added anything to the experience. The only movie I wish I had seen in 3D was Avatar, because a lot of people tell me it really was great.

But who know, perhaps this one will change my mind. And if not.... I can always rewatch in beautiful 2D-HD on bluray. :)

I feel your pain. It's a money making gimmick that needs to be flushed away like it was at the end of the 50's and 80's when they tried to flog it to the public as the "revolutionary" experience it clearly was not.

If it was a film designed around being watched in this format (akin to Avatar or Gravity) I might give decisions like this some lenience. But it is not. It's another post-filmed-money grab by Disney and hurts some of the viewers who are already struggling to justify the cinema-trip cost given the $15/£10 ticket price we are being lumped with for a good old fashioned 2D film.

Being forced to pay £13.60 for an adult cinema ticket after 5pm on weekdays or over weekends is unacceptable for almost ANY 3D film. The cinema industry is struggling, I appreciate this, but these days they offer almost no value for the casual 3-4 Times a year viewer and to gouge then by ONLY offering the more expensive option will doom them in the long run.

The cinema, like good old fish & chips, used to be a well priced treat that you could take the entire family to. At its cheapest option (family ticket for two adults and two kids) TFA in 3D will cost £44 before concessions (or glasses if you don't have any). And over the first week my local has 3 times as many 3D showings as 2D... ludicrous that I had to purchase tickets 2 months in advance to get tickets for only one of two 2D performances for the evening (1945 and 2215 hours)

If they ONLY had a 3D option, like you my poor chum, I'd not go at all until they lifted the 2D embargo

Hugo - anger leads to hate, hate leads to suffering, suffering leads paying whatever the cinemas want just so you can see your most anticipated film of the year, quietly hoping it doesn't suck

Avatar was the only live action movie I've seen that I thought was really enhanced by the 3D. Some of the animated movies I saw in 3D were pretty good that way, but for some reason it hasn't worked as well in the other live action movies I've seen.

Somewhere between 6:30 and 7. Depends on the pace of the game.
Damn, I'm still going to be at work then.

I hate 3D and I wish it would go away but sadly until they have a new premium thing, this is what we have. And its what is going to be the opening movie big thing. Case in point: I want to see this movie in IMAX. I don't want to see it in 3D. I don't think the two things are mutually exclusive any longer in most circumstances. My fiancee and I have seen one flick in 3D IMAX this year -- Avengers 2.

Yes, I will certainly be eager to catch Star Wars VII in 3D IMAX.

The Star Wars Episode I conversion to 3D wasn't too bad. But I have a feeling that EP VII in 3D IMAX will kick some serious ass.

Loved Tron Legacy, Prometheus, Avatar and Jurassic World in 3D or 3D IMAX. I am eagerly awaiting getting a 3DHDTV so I can enjoy the 3D discs of the Blu-Rays I have for most of these movies.

You sound like the people who were against color and sound being added to movies.

Avatar. Up. The Martian to an extent (although there were instances of over-use there). Gravity. The good thing about contemporary 3D is that people have gotten more adept at using it to add depth to panoramic shots and make scenes more immersive, and less obsessed with using it as a "watch [such-and-such] come out of the screen!" gimmick.

Bloody awesome....

"It's all true.".... Shivers...
This is the Star Wars we need. Not necessarily the one we deserve... Cannot cannot wait!!!
