Star Wars: Episode VII: The Nerd Rage Awakens

The title of Episode VIII according to movieplot.com:

Neither TheForce.net, nor MakingStarwars have reported on this yet, and movieplot has been known for spewing shit before.

That's a horrible title if it's true. So bland and way too wordy.

I text my wife at work and she basically said the same thing.

That's a really long and tedious name...

the Trek movies and M:I:III had several writers you can't tell what was written by Abrams, but Lucas gets mainly the sole credit for the Star Wars movies, so it's really had to say that about Abrams writing.. Armageddon though is mostly his though.

Well yeah they've all had other writers as well, but as the director JJ would still play a big part in the writing of the story, and it's clear there's a particular fun and snappy style of dialogue he prefers, and wants his writers to put in his movies.
Yeah, he even though he was only a co-writer on most of his movies, he was also director and a producer, so he probably had a fair amount of control of how things were written. I'll admit, I mainly mean that post as a joke, but I've thought that the MI movie, his Trek movies, and early episodes of Lost and Alias had pretty natural sounding dialogue.

Abrams left Lost not long after the pilot and you need t o credit Orci and Kurtzman for the feel of Alias, M:I:III and the Star Trek movies. but really it's hard to pin down his writing style IMO, there's just been too many hands on his scripts to tell.

The Dark Side will have Penne Arrabbiata....

Nope, not buying it. Sounds too redundant and doesn't really describe any kind of action being taken. It's just a vague description of who the enemy is.

Maybe they'll do a collection of short stories: Tales from the Darkside.

Of course, they'll have to pay for the name.

^ I don't think so, I think Lucas was just a different filmmaker then. Perhaps out of necessity, but more open and collaborative nonetheless. His collaborators were brilliant, but he chose them and was very hands-on about what he wanted. Ralph McQuarrie, John Barry, John Mollo, John Williams and Ben Burtt all acknowledged important ways Lucas helped guide their work.

Indeed. Comparing the OT production process versus the PT one, the spirit of collaboration and, even, improvisation, is present and shows in the acting.

This is the same case with TFA, so I'm confused as to why there s concern with this film over other of his projects  I've definitely seen a spirit of collaboration in this project, and Abrams is definitely a very hands on, interactive, director who respects input.

Maybe I just enjoy Abrams' style more and am not as worried about it.

The Order of the Dark Side?

Man, they're really trying to push this new Halloween burger at Burger King, aren't they? Take it down a notch, yo.

Nothing about that burger is good or funny. It turns your poo green.

If I want that I'll eat at Waffle House.

Star Wars was a great film but I don't think many people are left who place the credit primarily on Lucas' shoulders after how badly he botched the prequels. Sure. It was his vision, but on execution, the people around Lucas raised it to another level. Left to his own devices I think SW would have been just as weak as the prequels.

Indeed, after watching countless hours of behind the scenes stuff on both the OT and PT, my partner commented to me that it makes him realize what an accident SW was in 1977.

What he meant was that, had Lucas had the money and technology to do ANH as he exactly wanted to, it would be a vastly different movie and full of farting, burping cartoons stepping in shit.

It's ONLY the limitations of the tech and funding at the time that means we're lucky we got the SW film we got!

If you consider that TESB was Brackett/Kasdan/Kirshner and was the best of the OT and then factor in Lucas' return to the process with ROTJ and the sidelining of Marquand, along with the downright bad entirety of the PT(when money and tech were NOT an issue!)it's CLEAR to see that SW is at its best when he's actually not too involved!
