Rewatch the trailers again the one in the trailers looks exactlly like Luke's original blue lightsaber and Finn is holding a blue lightsaber.
Guess you missed all the footage from the new movie showing a lightsaber that looks exactly like the ANH Luke Saber.
At the end of ESB when the trapdoor opens under Luke and he slides through the series of tubes out the bottom of Cloud City it's pretty clear something falls past him and keeps falling to the 'surface' of Bespin.
I've always assumed that was at the very least his hand. It's funny because it falls there but it's not there when Luke slides down the first tube and comes to a stop before the bottom drops out under him.
Well maybe Leia's role is to pass on the lightsaber.

Recovering Luke's lightsaber in the film *would* give reason to go to Bespin in it.
but how could it have survived the fall on Besbin?
I thought that was something from his utility belt? I never screen-grabbed and studied it, though.
Maybe the saber wound up in a catch somewhere under the city, without actually falling out?

Yeah, I see no sensible reason Luke's lightsaber survived, when--as you point out--it was not in the tube when Luke rolled to a stop. That tube was designed so nothing would slide past the trap door. Instead, any weight triggers the door to jettison junk / waste to a very unknown end. Vader certainly did not retrieve the weapon as he quickly made his way back to the Star Destroyer, and Luke assumed it was lost (possibly destroyed), hence, his building a new weapon.
What fanciful explanation will the script give for the ANH/ESB lightsaber's return?
Let's just say it did, then where was it when Luke got to the trapdoor? And for that matter it still would've fallen to Besbin and shattered.
People have told me the lightsaber/ hand is that piece of debris that Luke sees when he is catches himself on the flimsy wires/ weather vain out in the atmosphere on Bespin under Cloud City. I've paused it on Blue Ray and magnified it but I can't tell, honestly.

What evidence? Did you see the lightsaber in the same tube as Luke before the trapdoor opens?
Yeah, that's what I've always figured if the thing falling past him is indeed his hand.
In the EU the hand and lightsaber was found by the Empire, given to the Emperor, and subsequently used to create the clone of Luke at the end of "The Last Command" so it's not like 'finding the saber' was a totally unused plot device.
I had always assumed that what we saw dropping was Luke's blaster, so he couldn't try to shoot his way back in.
His hand got cut off a while before he decided to drop, and it could have gone anyplace since its mass would be a lot less than Luke's.

After the Falcon got away, Vader went back for it, found it but was ordered to take it a storehouse by the Emperor (the hand and lightsaber). This same lightsaber was eventually retrieved by Luke and given to Mara Jade, who used it until she built her own. Luke eventually retired the saber.
