Star Wars: Episode VII: The Nerd Rage Awakens

Not liking them is one thing and there's some serious and ridiculous crap in those films, but some people should try to keep things in perspective. They're movies, and George's (and now Disney's) movies, not public domain or classical works of art hanging in a major museum. Don't like them? Don't watch them.
A-MEN, brotha!

Fun fact: not everything in the OT is a moment of high art or dramatic excellence. ;)
I'm pretty sure that in some states you could get arrested for saying that.

I don't think I'll ever understand the hate for the prequels, I had no expectations going in and I wasn't disappointed.

Your explanation is embedded in the above statement. People go into films with expectations. It's our prerogative to do so. The prequels failed not just with picky SW fanboys but across the board as quality entertainment. It's just that the brand pull was so great that everyone saw it anyway, rewarding mediocrity.

The Phantom Menace is the 6th top grossing US film at the Box Office, just over A New Hope (#7), which has had the longest amount of time to be at the Box Office.

Revenge of the Sith (#24) is the next Star Wars fill on the top 100 list. Followed by Attack of the Clones (#46), Return of the Jedi (#48), and The Empire Strikes Back (#65), as the lowest on the list in terms of money made at the Box Office. ESB is the only one of these six films that is not in the top 50.

These films made serious amounts of money. A lot more than any possible amount of naysaying and hate can over come. They were not bad films. Bad films don't rake in hundreds of millions of dollars.

In perspective, the top US Box office Star Trek film (Star Trek) is #84. Followed by Into Darkness at 114, and The Voyage Home at #521...the only one of the first 10 films to make over 100 million at the US box office (of which there are presently 625 films that do so).

I truly....... deeply...... love you.....

It's over, I have the high ground!

We should play a horrible quote game; PT vs OT. Everyone pick sides and then see if we can suss out the worst dialogue in all of Star Wars.

You are not even adjusting the numbers for inflation. Your analysis is bogus unless you think ticket prices are the same across decades. They were not. For example in 1977 tickets were closer to $2.23.

Adjusted for inflation: http://www.boxofficemojo.com/alltime/adjusted.htm

#17 TPM
#89 AOTC
#61 ROTS

But #2 SW, #12 ESTB and #15 ROTJ.

They were not bad films. Bad films don't rake in hundreds of millions of dollars.

And in response to this: both Transformers DOTM and AOE grossed over 1 Billion apiece globally so this premise is bullshit.

Yeah, bad movies can make tons of money at the box office and it's not just the Transformers franchise. Frankly, anything can become a smash hit even if it completely sucks.

For example: a lot of popular music and prime time network television in recent years.

The most interesting part of the poster is of course Finn holding a lightsaber.

Not just any lightsaber - that looks Luke's original lightsaber.

What I really like is that Rey is the most prominent character. I hope that means she's the lead for the new trilogy.

If it is the Force is strong in the Skywalker line...than the line would go through either Luke or Leia. Not Han.

Lando and Leia? He was a smoothie that one.

That line was just quoted from RotJ with Hamill re-recording it to be superimposed over the original line specifically for the trailer. It isn't from the new movie. We have no idea if it is actually significant to the plot.

You don't actually have to be related to the skywalkers to be a jedi..

Finn is the son of Han and his first wife (who appeared in the comics recently) - GUESS not spoiler.
Shouldn't he be older then? Unless Han got back together with wife #1 after he was with Leia, which I doubt.
