Star Wars: Episode VII: The Nerd Rage Awakens

You're forgetting "Random Background Alien Who's On-Screen for Just Three Seconds But Will Be Released Half a Dozen Times in Several Different Outfits Before the Christmas Shopping Season."

Seriously.

Well, they did do the Tales From Jabba's Palace short story collection, and one for the Mos Eisley Cantina, so those characters having detailed backstories are a little more forgivable to me. Where it gets ridiculous is when they do the same thing for a character who was in like one frame of a crowd scene. Hell, there's a whole series of articles on StarWars.com devoted to these kinds of characters. There was one a while back that gave names and backgrouds for all or at least a lot of the Rebels seen on Hoth before and during the Battle of Hoth, and right now there is an article all about the different R2 series droids that appeared on screen. The droid that Owen and Luke got before R2 has gotten like 3 different back stories, although one was never meant to be canon.

No, that was Boba Fett. He was the first mail-away figure in the classic Kenner era (and, as some of us no doubt know, originally came with a rocket-firing feature and projectile and that first version was pulled for child safety reasons and replaced with the standard, regular Boba Fett).

Boba was later followed by Bossk, Dengar, Admiral Ackbar, Nien Nunb, The Emperor and Anakin Skywalker for the two later movies.

Disney/Lucasfilm has released a hi-res (3500x1458) still from that scene we saw in the international TV spot. You can find it at the end of the gallery here.

You can see some redesigned AT-ATs on the right side of the pic. They appear to be "headless".

It looks like the First Order AT-AT Walker design incorporates some kind of ball turret or cannon battery in place of the old head and cockpit. It kind of looks like a hybrid design using elements from both the Republic Clone Army AT-TE walkers and the classic Imperial design.
