As to Kylo Rens saber, it makes perfect sense that his saber would look unpolished, if he was building it not from a plan, which likely no longer exist, but maybe something is guiding him. Its been long theorized that the side "blades" are actually vents to keep it from exploding.

And why his weapon's blades have such an unrefined, crackling appearance when activated. It doesn't have the look of a lightsaber constructed to the exacting and historic specifications of the old Jedi Order and the Sith Lords.

The FX look amazing. I love how real and un-CG the shot of the fighters attacking the troops (in what appears to be a destroyer hanger) looks.

And Ford. Those three words, in costume and standing side by side with Chewie = Sold.

Absolutely false. There were numerous drafts for TPM, all with numerous alterations and reworkings. In fact he spent much of the 90s writing it and many of the ideas date back to the 80s. The other two Prequels were the ones that he never bothered writing more than one draft and it shows!

The lesson is for certain SW fans to avoid telling themselves "this is going to be the greatest Star Wars EVAR!!" / "Move over, Empire, here comes..." and similar claims that cannot honestly come from a trailer.

I'm terrified to imagine the first draft of TPM then if what we got was the polished version. Must have been all senate speeches and Jar Jar dialogue.

And yet The Phantom Menace made more money at the box office than Star Wars, and won as academy award as well. Both those films are in the top 20 box office winners.

That's not true either much of acts one and two of Ep. III were rewritten and even reshot.

The rough draft of ROTS detailed in Making of ROTS is largely identical to the movie in terms of story beats especially with the first (the battle of coruscant and the death of dooku) and third acts (the duel of fates) with the only major difference being a young Han Solo in the second act at the Wookie planet with Yoda. Compared to say the original rough draft of SW or TPM or ESTB or ROTS to the movies or even the variations between the individuals drafts, the changes and rewrites in ROTS are largely minute.

Actually I think most of us are excited because it doesn't look like garbage. Our expectations are so low at this point that any sign of quality is a reason to celebrate. It's like following a baseball team that hasn't won a game in years and you see someone hit a home run. The game isn't over, but you're at least excited.

Strangely enough seeing Han and Chewie at the end of the trailer seems to grind the extremely fast pace of the trailer to a halt.

I saw this about five hours ago and have been too busy to to post anything. HOLY FUCKING SHIT!!! This trailer gave me goosebumps. I totally love it. The first trailer was cool, but this one is even better. It seems like they are holding out on showin us Luke and Leah. I'm getter more and more exited for this movie and I can't wait to see another trailer. Sadly, it's going to be a while. I love it though.

Even before we get to Han and Chewbacca, it felt like Star Wars again. With Star Destroyers and Tie Fighters and Stormtroopers and X-Wings...

I think part of the problem with the prequels is that they didn't feel visually like Star Wars.

The Music and the speeder zipping past the downed star destroyer gave me goose bumps..

Two things about that:

A teaser trailer is supposed to generate buzz and enthusiasm for a movie. Success there.

To some extent, we're getting a known quantity with this film. Many of us have seen multiple JJ Abrams films--we know what we like about them and what we don't. Even though this film has the Star Wars name, it is still an Abrams film and will share many of the same characteristics of his other movies. If you liked his work on Star Trek, Super 8, Lost (he only directed the pilot but wrote a few other episodes), MI III, or Fringe then chances are pretty good you'll like the new Star Wars. If you didn't like those then you probably won't like it.

Almost everything about this trailer gave me goosebumps. This teaser was one visual and emotional feast from the Lucasfilm logo to the closing graphics. Few movie trailers have gotten me this excited, especially a teaser that didn't reveal any plot details.
