I've gotten where I buy a bottled water and refill it at a water fountain when empty if I've eaten recently.
I will be going to the early Thursday showing of Avengers: AoU. I don't want to be spoiled by anyone and the Star Wars trailer just makes me want to see it more.

I don't buy food at the local theater most of the time. It's too expensive and I usually don't have extra time to wait in line. I'm not sure how many people sneak stuff in, since the rules are clearly posted that you're not supposed to do so. But I wouldn't be at all surprised if some stuff gets past the radar.
Rules may be posted, but who's enforcing them? Have you ever seen somebody body-searched by a theater employee?
I imagine that somebody might say something if you were openly carrying something in, but you can pretty much bring in whatever you can conceal. Who's stopping you?

I very rarely eat while watching a film, but I'm all for people bringing in outside food. Those prices are a clear scam.
Way back in their Sneak Previews days, Siskel and Ebert did a show where they walked the audience through their day as movie critics. Siskel would bring a bag of popcorn from home in his briefcase because he didn't like the movie theater variety.
I guarantee the 16 year olds running the concession really don't give a damn.
At our theaters nobody even checks ticket stubs. I could very easily walk in and see movies for free if I wanted.
I bring outside candy and snacks into the theater in my pockets, especially if the weather's right and I'm wearing a jacket. I apologize for nothing.

I've smuggled in all kinds of things into theaters. No one cares as long as you aren't filming the movie.

The theater chain makes more than enough money without me paying for a $4 box of tiny candies and further lining their pockets. Just show me the movie and have a working men's bathroom and I'll do the rest.

Tonight: our bladders sail into history!
Drinks we buy, but that's because you can buy bottles of good pilsener at Dutch theaters, and the theater we go to even has triples and such, so we cool.
But snacks..... no effing way. Be always get a big bag of M&M's at the supermarket, which my girlfriends has in her handbag. And really, a 400gr bag of M&Ms between the both of us is plenty, we usually have some left to take home.

I rarely even drink anymore when I go see a movie at the cinema. With the overpriced (and icy cold) drinks and chilly air conditioning in those places combined with my aging bladder I don't need to be sucking down a big Coke or Dr. Pepper and then spending half the film standing at the urinal.
Not to mention the length of so many movies today.
One Peter Jackson movie and a giant Coke and they'll never again let me inside that theater.
