EP7 is a full year off. The teaser showed a lot more than I thought it would TBH. I'm pretty floored for this.

Eh. To each their own. Whatever hovers one's speeder. I personally would have tossed in a few more images and made it a little bit longer, but for what it is it's an effective teaser.

Not saying I think the film will be bad, not at all. Just I suppose I was expecting a "teaser trailer" akin to the recent Jurassic World & Avengers 2 ones. This really isn't is it, it's like a teaser teaser trailer.
Simply my feeling was mainly "hm, is that it?"

Well, I haven't seen the one for Jurassic World yet, but I wouldn't classify the trailer for Avengers: Age Of Ultron as a teaser. It was pretty much a full-on trailer. It was incredibly awesome, yes, but I feel like it was a different thing.

Yea, Teaser Trailers often don't even show a bit of footage, they're just some music (Often not even music from the actual movie) and some words flashing up on the screen, and/or some dialogue and maybe a Logo, which may or may not be in the actual movie. Teaser's aren't often meant to even get you interested in the film, just to let you know it's coming. So, a Teaser, that's over a minute long and has actual footage is quite a treat.

J.J.'s teaser for his first Trek film was released a little over a year before Trek 2009 hit theaters and showed absolutely no footage from actual movie itself, but he made the most of it.

The 2008 Trek teaser depicting the Enterprise being constructed remains one of my favorite trailers of the past decade.

Sorry, I'm just not so easily excited.
Espeically by a shot of some sand and a random black guy. Give me a quick shot of Han & Chewie in the cockpit, Luke with his lightsabre, R2 & 3PO arguing etc, until then I'm not really interested. There's nothing in that you wouldn't just see in some Star Wars PC game trailer.

Normally I might agree, but even without those characters we still get more great, old-school Star Wars in this teaser than anything we've seen in quite awhile, with X-wings, TIE Fighters, Stormtroopers, and an absolutely awe-inspiring Millennium Falcon sequence.

And there's also a much greater sense of fun, danger, and urgency to it that's been largely missing since the OT as well.

So I'd say there's still plenty here to get excited about.

Kasdan and Abrams did do a re-write however they did not re-do the entire story from the ground up.

Yeah that's pretty much the impression I've gotten. Abrams obviously wanted to put more of an emphasis on the original characters over the new ones, but the general story from Lucas is supposedly pretty much the same.

There is. The Falcon and TIE Fighters alone were enough to make me smile and feel like a little kid, and the villain with the new lightsaber design felt like a bad guy we need to keep an eye on as the movie's premiere gets closer. The teaser did what it set out to do: make us want to see the movie even moreso than before, and whip up excitement and debate within both the fanbase and the wider audience.

Whoever animated that shot of the Falcon tapped into the minds eye of every kid who's played with a Millenium Falcon toy ever. And holy crap, does that get me excited.

See, this is what worries me. If its going to be anything like JJ's Star Trek reboot, then Episode VII is going to contain a lot of fan service and little else. I much rather have something new than a movie that tries to recapture or retool past movies.

Yeah, there's some not-so-subtle racism being posted over on Facebook about Boyega in Stormtrooper armor. They completely overlook the obvious Spaceballs "comb the desert" reference and go straight for the "hey, the Empire has black Stormtroopers" meme.

Who said the stormtroopers were cloned from just one being?
I did think the lightsaber had a 'Klingon" look at the Hilt,

So... what were we seeing in the teaser? My theory based almost entirely on the trailer alone:

--Boyega is reacting to sensing the Force for the first time in his life. Something happens to make "The Force Awaken" and latents like him and Daisy suddenly feel it for the first time. This will cause him to defect from the Empire.

--I'm guessing that Luke, rumored to be in self-exile at the time, will also sense this awakening and decide to rejoin the galaxy to deal with it. I'm guessing the Sith Villains did something to "wake up" the Force.

--Sith Guy (Adam Driver, I assume) is clearly pissed off about something. He's hunting Jedi (Luke? Boyega? Daisy?) and he finally found them.

Actually my one complaint with the sequence is that they're continuing to use the extra-detailed engines of the SE instead of going back to the original, white band of energy we saw in the OT.

The original engine effect just looked a lot more powerful and dynamic, I thought. And plus... I'd just rather not have anything in this movie that reminded me of the awful SEs, if possible.
