Star Wars: Episode VII: The Nerd Rage Awakens

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

Nice title and it really fits as they kept having to poke the old cast with sticks to wake them up and say their lines.

Either that or it's a dig at how the previous three movies kind of put everybody to sleep. ;)

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

Lame title but then again, Episode I had the best title in The Phantom Menace and that didn't turn out so great.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

So if the Force Awakens in Ep VII, what's it been doing the previous six movies? So all those Jedi and Sith have been using ACTUAL magic this whole time?!

Mark

My guess would be that the title refers to the fact that by the end of ROTJ most of the remaining Force-users are dead. Perhaps that caused the Force to go into some kind of dormant period.

I like the title. I think it has the right "feel". It also follows the unofficial naming convention established by the first two trilogies:

First chapter: A vague reference to someone or something that will kick off the story.

Second chapter: A direct physical retaliation.

Third chapter: A previously-vanquished foe makes a comeback.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

A title might be a good hook to help draw in an audience, but in the end matters very little and in some cases not at all. Some of the best movies, television shows and books have mediocre or uninspiring titles but good-to-excellent story quality and the fans and critics like or even love them.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

They should have used

Star Wars - The fans have not been pleased since 1980

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

I agree with you, eddie. It's just that Lucas's naming convention has always been to be a bit turgid and opaque, and I've always really liked it. Yes, it's a bit "pulpy." I think that's the way that it should be.

And I thought Abrams and co. sort of "got it." As Into Darkness was a striking contrast to "Star Trek: Cliché."

In the end, it's not a big deal; I'm just a little disappointed.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

Yeah, it could have been more exciting of a title but in the end the script and the story are what matter. Not the movie name that will be on the big screen and plastered all over the world and on everything you can think of.

Exactly. Abrams names his films in a way the foreshadows the sequence of events in the film.

Another example, Super 8.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

The title sucks, but it's not going to stop me from going to see Mark Hamill play Luke Skywalker again.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

The title sounds ok to me. not great, but decent. The article about possible Luke Skywalker spoilers is interesting, and something I think could be interesting.

Yeah, if that really is the story, it definitely has potential.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

I like all six Star Wars titles. What's wrong with TPM or AOTC? They're fine.

But "The Force Awakens"? Ugh. That's so generic and lame. Ancient Fear was much better.

That said, I'm dead excited for the movie itself and I'm going to love it. But horrible title!

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

I have a feeling the title will seem a LOT cooler once we have a trailer and some great imagery to go along with it.

Right now they're just some words on a page that don't really tell us anything.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

This name has lit up the internets. LOL Huffington post poster suggests successive names:

edited to add: here's the funniest comment yet IMO

People are upset about a newly announced Star Wars title? Wow, that *never* happens!

StarWarsUnderworld is posting details of storyboard art that's supposedly been leaked. It's not much and there are no huge revelations of any sort but if the scene depicted is in the final theatrical cut of the movie it could be pretty thrilling and give us a dramatic glimpse of the film's lead villain.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

"Ancient Fear" would only be better if it suits the story more.... Oh wait... We do not know the story... Without any context both are equally generic.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

True story: At first, I thought "The Empire Strikes Back" was a banal and awful title, but now I love it. And despite initial disappointment, on repeated viewings TESB has solidly grown into my second-favorite film of the saga, after the original.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

"Pulpy" is actually the correct style for this series. It is more or less based on the old 1930s serials which is the basic origin of on screen pulp.

As with all these titles, especially the first in a trilogy, we'll figure it out by the end of the film.
