I don't know if anyone has posted this, but the other day one of TheForce.net's writers posted a story saying that he knows with 100% certainty that the reports about the villains in EVII are wrong. He can't say how he knows though, so I guess this just goes down to which site you trust more.
Yeah I had hoped that after 5 years or so of mopping up the Empire, they established a lasting peace that runs until the opening scene of the new movie
Remember; in the Special Edition, Palpatine's statue is knocked down ON CORUSCANT THE DAY HE DIES.
Which suggests the Empire pretty much immediately toppled.
Are you using some definition of feudal that's completely contrary to reality? If so, I agree.But that is wrong. Palpatine tossed out the Senate and was able exert direct control through the system of Imperial Governors. There was nothing feudal about the Galactic Empire.

Imperial Governors = feudal lords.

planets = land
I get that it wouldn't be easy to rebuild after the Empire. If this plotline was five years after ROTJ, I would get it. But 30 years?
I hope many of these rumors aren't true. Having the Empire still around as a credible threat is fanwanking at its worse. I don't mind the new villains coming from the ashes of what was once the Empire and the Sith but if there is still no peace in the galaxy after 30 years, it renders the original trilogy that JJ Abrams so "loves" completely meaningless and shows he has no real understanding of Star Wars.

I can't think of anything more unoriginal than having the Empire still run around after 30 years. They might as well have kept the original EU if they were going to recycle garbage like that. Though expecting JJ Abrams to create anything new in his film career is asking too much. His motion picture career has exhibited none of the creativity of his television career (and this is coming from someone who enjoyed his two Star Trek films).
I do. Do you? Maybe you should read over that link yourself. Cause, like Inigo Montoya says, I don't think that word means what you think it means.Are you using some definition of feudal that's completely contrary to reality? If so, I agree.But that is wrong. Do you even know what feudalism is?

Yep, which is exactly what the Galactic Empire was. Palpatine and his underlings were all about promising power, protection, and wealth in exchange for services and labor from other worlds. With a side of intimidation and threats if they decided otherwise.Wikipedia said:Broadly defined, it was a system for structuring society around relationships derived from the holding of land in exchange for service or labour.
The Clone Wars animated series is something you might wanna watch. It comes up quite often, actually. Like, almost every episode in fact.Not unless the Galactic Empire was largely agricultural in nature or that Vader and Tarkin and the stormtroopers and the governors were exchanging their military service for land tenure rights. You can believe it all you want. But there is nothing in the movies or in the former Expanded Universe to support your idea.
