Star Wars: Episode VII: The Nerd Rage Awakens

The Prequels happened. They're not going away.

Good. I liked them, and they are a part of Star Wars.

Love this new trailer!

To the people moaning it didn't give up more story... look, a trailer is designed, ultimately, to get people interested enough to go and see a movie when it's released.

This is Star Wars. Unlike some other films, it doesn't NEED to do ANYTHING else to get people to come and see it besides being Star Wars! A "flavour" of montage shots and clips - asking more questions than answering - is all that's required, and that's what we got.

Perfection.

I really dislike that shot for some reason. It doesn't feel like Star Wars.
Clone Wars and Rebels both did/do that style of showing a ship in hyperspace. And we get a rear view of that type of shot in ANH
I acknowledge that and maintain my opinion on the matter.

I'm also wondering if, to borrow a sentiment, we are eventually going to see some, um. . . Stars in this, uh, Star Wars movie. Right? We've got dogfighting above the surface of three planets (assuming Ireland planet and Snow Planet aren't the same) but so far not much in the way of action actually out in Space. Could be really easy to make that planetside stuff visually overwhelming if it is a significant part of the action in the film.

All that said, I'm stoked.

This is completely true. In all honesty, Star Wars doesn't even need much marketing. It's Star Wars, and for that reason alone, people will flock to cinemas.

But then again, this doesn't apply to all people. The ever-growing Chinese market (undoubtedly the second most important after the domestic one) has just recently been exposed to the Original trilogy, and guess what... The Chinese weren't that crazy about it at all. So, Disney will have to go the extra mile to sell it to them.

Now that I’ve had time to watch it a few more times, think about it and put words together (for the most part)… The trailer made me emotional. Particularly from 1:05-1:20. Those 15 seconds alone made me feel more like a kid again than anything. The shot of the Falcon going into hyperspace. Han telling the new kids that the stories they’ve heard about the Jedi and the Dark Side are true. And the music. Oh, the sweeping rendition of Han and Leia’s theme is just… there are no words. John Williams continues to prove he’s got it. And even if this movie is terrible, I thank JJ Abrams, Disney and John Williams for those remarkable fifteen seconds.

The other thing is: It amazes me that after 38 years, after the prequels, when we’re going into the third generation of new Star Wars fans and excitement for this series is still so strong that it crashes multiple theater websites.

This COULD be the biggest movie ever.

I was just floored by the reverse-angle entering hyperspace effect. Everything else in the trailer and that's all I can think about.

Must... buy... tickets...

All it takes for it to go north of 500 mil. domestically is to not suck.

It's not likely to challenge Avatar's overseas earnings, though. It'll be huge in Europe and Australia, but I'm not so sure about Asia.

The Phantom Menace earned a grand total of $474 million at the box office in 1999 and 2012 (the 3-D re-release) and that's overwhelmingly weighted in dollars and ticket prices from the end of the last century. As widely-criticized and even detested as Episode I was, it went on to become the sixth-highest grossing film in the history of North America.

I think The Force Awakens can easily top that total with current ticket prices, the cast involved in the film and all of the good rumors about it. It could get so-so reviews from critics and the audience and still shoot almost to the top of the list of all-time highest-grossing films.

I mentioned this before in my first impressions, but every time I watch the trailer I'm struck by the new "gritty" look to the battles. Very cool. Thanks, JJ.

Also, how adorable is Daisy Ridley? She seems genuinely excited to be part of this project. First on "Force Friday" when she showed her enthusiasm over all the stuff Disney gave her and now when she posted her own reaction to the trailer.

Because it's Star Wars it'll be a profitable movie even counting in the movie's A List budget.

If it's a good movie in the league of the OT it'll probably blow Avatar or Avengers out of the water box office wise.. it is Star Wars after all and it draws from more generations of people and across all spectrums so its viewerbase is much greater.

Can't wait to see the trailer at home.. tried to see it on my smartphone at work but it's not the same.

Adjusted for inflation, TPM would have made $753.2 mil. of today's dollars.

I follow Daisy Ridley on Instagram, and she has been genuinely excited the entire time. It is awesome.
I wasn't sure if I would take my son (he's 3) to the movie. I'm still not sure, but he LOVED the trailer and was talking and making his own commentary throughout it. He even went and took some of his toy cars and wooshed them around like they were the Millennium Falcon. It was a proud moment.

Watched the trailer since I probably can't avoid it on my trips to the cinema anyway. Glad I did as it gives very little away. Really nice and emotionally charged.

My overall impression from all the hints and glimpses is that the galaxy is in a state of stagnation. The Empire has become a bunch of fiefdoms, the Rebellion has become a loosely allied group of planets, for whatever reason Luke has retreated from view, and the Jedi have never returned.
