Star Wars: Episode VII: The Nerd Rage Awakens

From what I read it sounds like Lost Stars actually starts during the OT and ends with some stuff after RotJ.

The Star Wars.com Database has been updated with vague info for TFA. I'm not sure how long ago the update happened, I found it through an update to IGN's TFA wiki's update to it's Starkiller Base page.

That Poe Dameron info is on the back of the "Space Mission Armor" Poe Dameron figure. I wonder if it's the same across the board so as to give some detail but not reveal too much in the online resource.

I love the Clone Wars ships. The Separatist capitol ship. The ARC-180 fighters. The Jedi fighters from ROTS (didn't like the AOTC one). The Naboo starfighter. The Naboo Queen starliner.
Being good designs isn't the problem. I was never made to care about any of them or made to feel like any of the characters had a stake in them other than the obvious example of needing to fix the ship in Phantom Menace. They were just anonymous ships. Anakin's Jedi starfighter was just an anonymous new design that showed up for a few minutes and was never heard of again. They even replaced Padme's ship in AotC with a new one for the two seconds it is on screen before blowing up.

All in all, it made them feel disposable and unimportant.

It would be really nice to see some new "hero" ships. Nothing in the PT really joins the Star Destroyer, X-Wing, Millennium Falcon, Slave I, Death Star, TIE Fighter, etc. as memorable (and, in some cases, iconic) "characters" in their own right. You could make an argument for the original chromed-out Naboo ship, I suppose. . . but I wouldn't.

Personally, I would. Of the PT offerings, the Naboo design is the most visually striking and elegant, and incredibly beautiful. I think I like Padme's yacht AOTC the best. The Royal Starship is in close second, follow by the Jedi Starfighter (both designs).

Most of the PT is ok looking, but I would agree that the nothing is really memorable, like much of the OT designs. However, there is certainly nothing wrong with the PT design-just not very memorable.

I will be curious to see all the visual designs from the new film, and see how the aesthetic fits in the rest of the continuity.

Thus far, of the merchandising, I have liked Poe Dameron's X-Wing design the best followed by much of the Kylo Ren designs. His design is very interesting.

I will be curious to see how I feel after watching the film.

I think the stench of the prequels detracts from any iconic status the PT ships might have attained. But if you asked someone who was like an 8 year old when TPM came out, and fell in love with pod racing, they might sing a different tune. Darth Mauls ship could have done it. But unfortunately Lucas killed off his coolest character in the 1st movie.

^
Yeah, I miss Qui-Gon too :( :wah: :brickwall:

Also, I think the Naboo aesthetic stands out regardless of the attitude towards the PT. I'm generally not impressed with the PT and think it was a massive waste of potential, but Naboo still is one of my favorite planets, and societies, portrayed in the films.

The three most memorable spacecraft of the Prequel Trilogy were the Naboo Starfighter, Darth Maul's Sith Infiltrator and Queen Amidala's Royal Starship from Episode I (a more memorable vessel in my opinion than the Flying Wing-influenced chrome ship that ferried Senator Amidala to Coruscant at the beginning of Episode II and was subsequently destroyed in the Separatist assassination attempt).

I like most of the ships seen in the Prequels. Even the small, pod-shaped Geonosian Starfighters were sleek and memorable with an interesting design that made them feel more alien than many other ships seen in the PT.

Really? I always liked that one. It reminded me of something you might see in one of those animated WWII propaganda films. And I loved the engine sound.

I like the sound effects of the engines. I just don't think the ship itself looks as nice. It's a good design, but I have a soft spot for the look and design of the Royal Starship in Episode I.

In other news, Kmart is getting an exclusive 6" Kylo Ren with a sculpted Starkiller Base stand, snow paint apps on his boots and robe and unique packaging that's much larger than the regular 6" Black Series window box.

Yeah, for a toy lightsaber blade in this scale I think they did a pretty fair job trying to replicate the crackling energy effect of Kylo Ren's weapon as seen in the film.

The Republic Cruisers (the Venator-class Star Destroyers) are pretty interesting to me even though there were hundreds of them on screen over Coruscant. We also see them a lot in the Clone Wars.

The Naboo Starfighter also was suppose to look iconic, and looks good, but more or less vanishes after the second movie.

One thing about Star Wars is that it probably wouldn't sound as good without Ben Burt's sound finding missions. Coming up with all kinds of sounds from all sorts of places.

Aye, I liked the Venator class star destroyers as well. (Would love to have seen some Victory class star destroyers).

My favorite ship in all of the Star Wars universe though is the Corellian Corvette...first seen in the form of Princess Leia's Tantive IV in Star Wars.

Those are nice, but neither originated in TCW. The Y-wing is obviously meant to be in a form closer to being right off the assembly line than what was in SW77. The Z-95 has only minor revisions from the craft originally seen in the 1994 Tie Fighter PC game (the behind the scenes sections of the Wookieepedia articles on the Z-95 seem to have been written by people who don't remember 1994!)*.

[* - In fairness, the Z-95 may have appeared even before Tie Fighter, but I'd be unfamiliar with that.]

Although not a universal difference, one difference between a lot of craft PT vs OT is that the OT craft seem more cobbled together/beaten up/repaired beyond their service lives/etc. That's obviously intentional, because the Republic has fallen. The Imperial craft are an exception, of course. If you're a greeble fan like me, that tends to make the OT craft more appealing on that point alone. The OT Y-wing is a remarkable design. The CW version is a logical predecessor, but I just don't find it as interesting to look at.

The only prequel ship I really ever liked was the yellow Naboo Starfighter. That was such a sleek and gorgeous design, with a great retro scifi feel, and I would have loved to have seen it used as that trilogy's new X-Wing. Instead of those awkward and ugly looking Jedi ships they decided to use.

Benico Del Toro has been cast for Ep. VIII.

This article, Star Wars Episode 8's Villain to Be Played by Benicio Del Toro, originally appeared on GameSpot.
As the release of Star Wars Episode 7: The Force Awakens draws ever closer, speculation has begun on what the next part of the Star Wars saga will have in store. Rian Johnson was announced as Episode 8's writer and director last year, but now Benicio Del Toro has revealed that he has been cast as one of the film's main villains.

I wonder what this means for the villains in The Force Awakens. Will Kylo and Plasma buy the moisture farm so to speak?

Since the Knights of Ren are basically Vader groupies, I think Kylo will have a trilogy arc that culminates in him becoming the sith lord, and then being killed by one of the protagonists.

I really dug the ARC-170's, pretty agressive looking fighters. And the Jedi fighters from ROTS were cool as f***. But nothing really ever stuck out as anything from the OT did.

Although, that freighter/transport ship from the first shot for Episode 1, the red one... That had a certain charm to it.

My favorite PT ships are the Jedi Starfighters.

Most of the movies have had their own one off villain.
TPM: Darth Maul
AoTC: Jango Fett, and Count Dooku (he briefly appeared in ROTS too, but he played a bigger role in AoTC)
ANH: Tarkin
TESB: Boba Fett (also appeared in AoTC, and RotJ, but TESB was his most prominent villain role).

I picked up my first piece of TFA merch Saturday. I got the BB-8 blueprint T-Shirt after my shift at work.

^It really depends if Ren is a Solo/Skywalker or not. If he is, he is probably not a one-off villain and probably will get a redemption arc of some sort. If not, probably dead in 8.

The consular ships also had some nice variants

Arquitens-class light cruiser - a more Imperial SD Design. Slotted in nicely with the Republic's designs towards more Imperial era aesthetics.
