Star Wars: Episode VII: The Nerd Rage Awakens

Darth Bane is also mentioned and his spirit appears in The Clone Wars, which is canon. Darth Bane is George Lucas' creation, he's not some random dude from the old EU.

And Mark Hamill provided the voice for the Force apparition of Darth Bane, a performance that earned him an Emmy nomination. It's an effective and creepy sequence with Yoda.

It was an interesting role reversal of TESB, in acting terms, with Yoda playing a similar role to that of young Luke in that film, on a quest for knowledge about the Force, but this time it's Mark Hamill playing the ancient Force-user.

I guess nobody got my joke about Tom Hardy playing Darth Bane, oh well.

On another note, I wonder how people will react to Star Wars: Rogue One a movie without any Force users and yet another prequel.

I think Rogue One will be very popular because it's directly tying into New Hope. The general public hates the Prequels and loves the OT. So it taking place IMMEDIATELY before New Hope is going to be a huge plus for the normies.

The "general public" does not hate the prequels--for many people they are the only movies they really know.

Nevertheless, EVERYBODY knows what the Death Star is and that will be the main attraction of the movie.

And those that do hate the prequels don't hate them because they're prequels

It's a heist movie with lasers and spaceships. Sounds like fun to me! ;)

I give Star Wars fans credit. They'll be interested in going to see Rogue One and if the rumors about the storyline are true then I think most of them will like or even love it. Not every Star Wars movie or TV show has to have (nor should have to contain) the exact same elements as others in the franchise to be successful or a good story or both.

Ditto.

And though not a hardcore SW fan, I don't 'hate' the prequels. I find them disappointing and it's sad they don't realise their potential (et passim). But there's some fun stuff in there too.

The Prequels were disappointing letdowns at worst. If your childhood was ruined by watching Episode I then you have far greater problems than sitting through a Star Wars movie with bad acting and Jar Jar Binks.

I like the idea of these spin-off stories being different from the main saga. The whole galaxy is at war; there are so many stories that could be told. Some could be totally devoid of Jedi and magic, while others could be #mysticalasfuck ;)

I'd like to see a wide variety.

Anyone have any thoughts on dialouge they do or don't want to hear? Do you think, "I have a bad feeling about this" will be in the film? Will Luke owe Han one and vise versa?

Even Star Trek is about more than starships named Enterprise and guys with green blood and pointed ears, so I say let's take a deeper and more expanded look into the Star Wars galaxy. Let's see more aliens, different bounty hunters, Rebels we've never met nor even heard of before and random everyday citizens living under the yoke of the Galactic Empire.

Anybody else think there's a chance Felicity Jones is playing a young Leia?

Carrie Fisher's own daughter is supposed to play the young Leia in The Force Awakens. And Rogue One is supopsoed to be about how the rebels got the Death Star plans, os it should take place right before A New Hope.

If they wanted to tap into the old EU for a name that fits the situation, Felicity Jones could play Bria Tharen.
