Star Wars Episode 7 - 2015

Harrison Ford is the obvious one of the original actors to return, a la Leonard Nimoy, to pass the torch to the younger actors who are going to be playing the brand-name characters.

Ford is a bankable name. Hamill and Fischer aren't. Being bankable compensates for the wrinkles.

I can see them going with a scenario like, Ford as Old Han, reminiscing on his deathbed about the terrible and dramatic events in the long ago past...as a framing device to stories of the younger (recast) characters...

Then you get maximum value of all the brand names: Star Wars, Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Harrison Ford (who is the only actor who is also a brand and therefore valuable to Disney). And you don't scare away the young audience by making them look at a bunch of codgers for two hours.

So we know from the start that, whatever happens, Han doesn't die. That's okay if he's the only one whose fate is known. Maybe everyone else croaks in the course of the three movies, or go dark side or whatever.

This is Star Wars. It won't need a bankable name to make $billion$.

Another vote for thinking the Thrawn trilogy overrated. Practically turned me off the EU. Hell, as it is I've only read a handful of Star Wars novels, mostly only in the past couple of years.

That's ok, I never knew how it was "rated" when I first got a copy of HTTE, and I loved it.

I'm pretty sure I read the Thrawn trilogy, is that the one with the little weapon that destroys stars? I remember quite enjoying them, I gave up on the EU novesl fairly early though once I realised they were never, EVER, going to end...

It sounds like you're referring to the Sun Crusher, which was in Kevin J. Anderson's Jedi Academy trilogy.

No stupid superweapons in The Thrawn trilogy. Plenty of that shit in later books by different authors though.:p

Most of them in books by Kevin J. Anderson (i.e. the prototype Death Star, the Sun Crusher and the Darksaber). It's no surprise that his tenure in the EU isn't exactly remembered fondly.

The only other superweapons in the post-OT EU that I can think of are the World Devastators and the Galaxy Gun, which appeared in the terrible Dark Empire comic miniseries.

Oh wait, I forgot about Centerpoint Station, which appeared in the Corellian trilogy. But I never really counted that one because its primary role was in creating the Corellian star system, not being used as a weapon.

If he was such a genius, why didn't he figure the relationship between Luke, Leia and Darth, as not realizing such led to his downfall?

But it didn't. It was the empire's elaborate subterfuge to control the noghri that did him in. They didn't change sides because of Leia, but because she revealed that the Empire was the one that destroyed their planet.

We saw him for 5 minutes at the end of a battle. Everything was still VERY exciting regardless of him being on the right side of the law. I would hardly call this domesticated.

Let him be married and up to his neck in diplomacy for ten years and we'll see how happy he is with domestication. He's going to get bored and she's going to get irritated with his boredom.

I can see it now. Han and leis have identicical twin girls
They get divorced
Each one raises one without telling them of their twin or other parent.....10 years or so later the girls meet at sleepaway camp and figure it out. Each goes home with the other.parent in a wild scene to get them together....sw7 and a parent trap sequal all in one...it is Disney after all
