Spoilers Star Wars Comics (spoilers for sequel trilogy)

I've never been into Star Wars comics but I've read 'Dark Empire', 'Darth Maul—Son of Dathomir', just recently I started 'The Rise of Kylo Ren' which is pretty interesting so far.

The comics start just as the New Jedi Temple is burning down (which Kylo didn't do but it was some force lightning from the sky. The Emperor?) then it flashes back to Kylo in training with Luke and by the second issue they meet the Knights of Ren. Would have been nice to have seen some of this in the movies.

Then there are the comics set after TESB which I haven't read yet but they seem to answer the question about what happened to..
Luke's lightsaber.

Since these newer comics are considered Canon in Star Wars i'd interested to see what stories they tell. But now i'm also a bit interested in reading more Dark Horse stuff and even the old Star Wars marvel comics. Any recommendations?

I've been reading Marvel's first core Star Wars series and I finished the first Darth Vader series and I really like both of them. I also read the Princess Leia, Han Solo, and Chewbacca miniseries and enjoyed all of them. The Chewbacca one was probably my least favorite, but I still enjoyed it.
As for the Dark Horse stuff the Knights of the Old Republic and Legacy series are both great.

Thanks for the recommendations.
BTW, Sorry guys, I didn't realize the comics were being discussed in the books thread.

The mainline Marvel Star Wars series is all over the place. Not terrible but never really gets past "mediocre" overall. It doesn't help that one of the main artists does the thing where he's basically drawing over photoshopped images of the actors to try and achieve a good likeness, and it's exactly as off-putting and 'uncanny valley' feeling as it sounds.

Most of the best stuff comes from Charles Soule; his run on the second Vader series is a clear standout, the Lando series is very good, as is 'Obi-Wan and Anakin' . The Poe series is OK, though it has the odd slump.

The Doctor Aphra series is right up there too. Easily the major breakout (and by far most complex) character of Marvel Star Wars. It's weird and crazy and explores corners of the Star Wars universe we don't often get to see.

Finished reading the final issue of The Rise of Kylo Ren comic today. Doesn't really add too much background to the character or show his fall. It's more about him fighting against his name and what it means to others. Could have done more with it. Was expecting some more with Snoke and his creation. I'm sure some other comic will cover it in more detail.
