Funny you say that because I've been 'reading' the first Discovery novel for a year now. And I usually like David Mack's works. I've finished both Discovery comic book arcs (The Light of Kahless and Succession) but I can't get past that first novel. And I've had a hard time with Trek Lit. overall lately. The last series I finished-didn't read every book though-was The Fall. But I've been losing interest in them the further they move away from the time in which their respective series were on, and plus as my memory of those shows and characters fade. Plus, I'm not super enthused by some of the creative and character choices either.

Some of the older ones were pretty good; I've found Q-Squared and Doctor's Orders hold up pretty well.
Amy Ratcliffe has shown off some of the artwork from her upcoming Women of Star Wars book on StarWars.com. This artwork is great, and really gets me excited for the book.

They also announced a new comic book miniseries and a new novel at NYCC today, along with the cover reveal for Master & Apprentice.
The comic book miniseries is the 5 issue Shadow of Vader, written by SW: Aftermath author Chuck Wendig. Each issue of the series will focus on a different character or group of characters and will deal with how Vader has impacted their lives. One issue will feature The Accolytes of the Beyond, a Dark Side cult introduced in Aftermath.
The novel is Alphabet Squadron by Alexander Freed, the author of the Rogue One novelization, and Battlefront: Twilight Company. It takes place shortly after Return of the Jedi, and follows a group of New Republic pilots who team up to hunt down rogue Imperials. The title comes from the fact that each member of the squadron flies a different one of the letter fighters, X-Wing, Y-Wing, ect.

Oh, that is a nice cover for Master and Apprentice. Alphabet Squadron certainly sounds interesting, and I did like Alexander Freed's tie-in novel for the first Battlefront game.

In the context of Wendig's tweet, it was an unannounced comic book that was cancelled, not a novel.
I finished Smuggler's Run yesterday, and I enjoyed it a lot more than I expected to. I have to confess, I wasn't quite sure what to expect since it was a "middle grade" novel, but it was surprisingly dark, and the writing didn't really feel that much different from the YA and adult novels. Obviously at only 128 pages the story didn't go as deep as some of the longer books, but it wasn't that bad.

Beck was a really good villain, definitely one of the scariest and most ruthless Imperials I've come across.
Delia and Curtis were really cool and I would love to see them again.

I must admit, I like the idea of a Sith Lord so crazy and twisted even the other Sith didn't like to talk about him. In the EU, too many of the ancient Sith seemed a little too much like petty, corrupt feudal lords or deluded sadists, so I'm glad they're doing something different with the new canon.
I also like that we're not being given a specific timing for this event, just that from the context it's presumably prior to Bane's time. They're being very careful not to paint future story tellers into corners.
I may be reading too much into it, but did anyone else notice the implicit allusions to both the World Between Worlds and the weapon on Malachor from SWR?

Also the Sith Lord implied that in his time Mustafar was not a lava world.
I finished up the digital version of Poe Dameron Vol. 1: Black Squadron back on Thursday. I really enjoyed it, the backstory bits for The Force Awakens were pretty good, and I liked how it fleshed out Poe and the other pilots. I was surprised by Grakkus's role in the second story arc, it was a nice connection back to the post-A New Hope comics.
