Star Wars Books Thread

I finished up the prologue of Lost Stars yesterday, and there were a couple things I already wanted to comment.
First of all, I'm already enjoying it.

That's good to hear.

One thing I thought was kind of interesting was seeing how the average citizens of the galaxy feel about the Empire. I'm used to stories coming from the perspective of people who either in the Rebellion or are at least working against the empire, so it was interesting to see characters who happy the Empire has shown up, and to see how the Empire presents itself to people like that.

I also already know from the bits I've read online that either Thane or Ciena end up joining the Rebellion, so after seeing how pro-Empire they as kids, I'm very curious what ends up turning one of them against the Empire.

Do not read the back of the dust jacket then; it spoils that surprise (I knew going in and I wish I didn't.)

I read the blurb a couple times before I bought the book, but I don't remember what it said. Thanks for the warning, I won't read it again.

Are there any upcoming reference books that could include images of new stuff from LS?
Oh, I just looked on Wookiepdia and they have a picture of Ciena. At this point I hadn't pictured her as having dark skin, but it's nice to have the reference now. I'm dissapointed that appears to be the only LS themed image we've gotten so far.

Not that I'm aware of.

I thought the prologue scene had an off-hand comment that she had a darker complexion, but it wasn't very specific, leaving me confused if she was black, Hispanic, or what. Really glad they clarified that.

I'm surprised we got anything period.

Ah, I must have forgotten about the line about Ciena's skin color.

I guess I just figured with so few new canon books, there would be a better chance of images for LS.

They held a Star Wars Books panel today at NYCC and announced some new books, with the biggest being a YA novel focused on Jyn Erso by Beth Revis, and a Middle Grade novel focused on Baze and Chirrut by Greg Rucka. Both books appear to come out on May 2, 2017. The article says 2016, but I'm almost positive that is a typo since the books haven't been released yet.

The article also includes the release dates for a bunch of the upcoming books:

Revis is the author of the NYT Bestselling, award winning sci-fi YA trilogy, Across the Universe. I've never read them, but just based on what Wikipedia says about them, it sounds like she'll be a good fit for Star Wars.

An interesting list. I'm assuming that this book:

Star Wars: Catalyst: A Rogue One Novel
From Del Rey
By James Luceno
On Sale: November 15, 2016

Is the only adult book, besides the Rogue One Novelization (which seems to be ebook only?), on the list.

The Art of books, and the Visual Guides aren't typically geared towards kids alone. I think the coloring book is an adult coloring book.

Cool, I'll be wanting to check out Revis's book when the time comes.

Yeah, I kind of figured stuff like that was for adults, I was mean the books with new stories. Hopefully the James Luceno book was good, I liked several of his old SW books and Tarkin was pretty good.

Speaking of SW books, I'm 4/6ths of the way through my semi-annual reread of the Republic/Imperial Commando books (well, its semi-annual at minimum, its probably more then that) but taking a bit of a break after True Colors to reread Tarkin, which I just got. I ended up buying the "Rise of the Empire" two books in one, because it was only about $1 more then Tarkin by itself and has two short stories I'm interested in along with Tarkin (one with Tarkin and one with Rae Sloane from Aftermath). I obviously won't be reading the other short story or second book, but with only a $1 difference I was willing to pay for the two short stories to go along with Tarkin.

So is Sloane our first new non-TV/movie recurring character in the new canon to appear in unrelated books and comics?
So far Wookiepedia says she's appeared in A New Dawn, three short stories, an issue of Kanan: The Last Padawan, and both Aftermath books.

Just a remind for everyone who is interested, Ahasoka comes out tomorrow. I'm not sure if I'll get it tomorrow, but I definitely plan on reading it eventually.

I have a pre-order in for Ahsoka.

I'm really hoping they eventually work Sloane into Rebels at some point, even if for just one episode. Hmm, I wonder, could they make her Thrawn's flag captain? I know fans would likely prefer that to be Pellaeon, but Sloane could work, no?

It would seem so. Curious how a literary character was given an illustration so relatively soon. That plus her aforementioned connections across several decades of the new continuity makes me wonder if she's set for a live action appearance and they already have a casting choice in mind.

I started the free sample this morning, and I have a question already.
Is the Ahsoka/Maul scene in the prologue from an episode? It seemed to still be during the CW and I know some stuff did happen with Mandalore and Maul but I didn't remember them fighting. I haven't watched the last few seasons of CW, outside of the Maul and Ventress episodes of Season 4 and some of the Season 5 eps, so I don't remember what all happened that late in the war.
