Star Wars: Battlefront II. Good Single Player Game?

Any fans of this game here? Is this a good game?

I'm thinking about getting this game, but I heard that it is mainly multiplayer. Is it like Left for Dead, which is the kind of game where Mutiplayer is the only reason to buy it? I don't have online for the PS2, so I was wondering if Battlefront II is good enough to buy if I only plan to play single player.

SWBF2 and Mario Kart are the two games I played over and over every single day. My GF and I would play it together on the same team not online so that's kinda like single player. I never played online so I don't know how that is but it was insanely fun gunning down people. The enemy AI was pretty good. And of course the best thing of all was earning the Hero character and slicing apart dozens of troops with your lightsaber

I only ever played it offline on the PS2, and I greatly enjoyed it. There is a single-player campaign that's okay, but the galactic conquest mode is the best. The space battles are awesome, you can win by either dogfighting with the enemy, or by boarding their ship and destroying it from within.

I used to play it a lot when it was released, but it's cursed for me as it seems that whenever I've played it, I get a lot of bad luck. I'm scared of playing it again in case my foot falls off, or something.

I heard Darth Vader and Han Solo are in this game. Please tell me that we can play as them.

Being able to use Vader in the first level of The Force Unleashed was really awesome.

Yeah, it's a good SP game, I think. It's got the same game mechanics as Battlefield 1942 and similar games. The Conquest mode is a lot of fun, and the space battles are cool.

Playing as a "Hero character" is not as cool as it sounds, though. It was a little underwhelming. Even so, the game itself is lots of fun.

As I recall the Hero characters were Luke, Anakin, Obi-Wan, Mace, Yoda, Han Solo, Leia, Aayla Secura.

The Villain characters were Emperor, Vader, Grievous, Maul, Dooku, Boba Fett, Jango Fett.

Unfortunately the Jedi characters were almost identical in the way they handled.

Oh and there's Mos Eisley Assault mode where only hero characters spawn, it's a lot of fun but the AIs don't use the hero powers as well as they do soldiers. I understand the download content had more heroes and Assault levels but I didn't have that.

The space battle levels are fun but they're pretty lame in single player. The enemy AI never tries to land in your ship, they just flit around in space attacking fighters, and I never got the handle of the fighter controls it was impossible to try and hit anyone jumping around.

I can't offer any opinion on the PS2 version but I know the PC version was tons o' fun, online or off. The "kill everything standing, capture every base" theme does get a bit stale after a while, but it's fun to kill time with, especially if you're a Star Wars superfan.

I use to play number 1 on the PC in a clan called Imperial Clones (-IC-) and the 2nd one split the clan because so many didn't like it, myself included. While it was more polished than the first, the gameplay wasn't as much fun.

Single player never interested me due to lame AI.

I found it very hard to play 1 after playing 2. The worst thing about 1? YOU CAN'T RUN! It was so annoying having to slowly walk everywhere, godforbid you spawn far away from the battle on huge freakin' map!

1 did have better graphics though, more polished and detailed. And the vehicle combat was better. I loved hopping in a fighter and strafing ground troops in Bespin or Endor. But 1 doesn't have hero characters so that's unfortunate.

I just brought Battlefront II and have already finished the first 6 levels of the single player Campaign! I really love the game. Thanks to everyone that recommended it! Now I have Lego Star Wars, Force Unleashed, and Battlefront II! Are there still anymore great PS2 Star Wars game that I'm missing?

I really love all the movie clips that appear during the menus.

The tutorial for the first level was very helpful. I wish that the game's default camera mode had been first person instead of third person though. Playing these kinds of shooters with the camera over the shoulder is way too distracting. It took me a while before I finally figured out on to change it. The space combat is fun too. It's really cool that now whenever I want to play a quick space battle, I can just pick up this game.

My favorite level so far was Operation: Knightfall, the one where the Clone Troopers attacked the Jedi Temple. Awesome level. Wish that scene had been in the movie. Being able to play a Clone trooper attacking the Jedi while John William's music was going on in the background was great.

Using the Clone trooper intros with the journel to start every level was a neat idea.

The Hero characters are good. They are powerful, but they aren't overpowered since there is a time limit when you pick them.

I have two questions.

1) Is there a level select menu that you can use to replay levels from Campaign after you've beaten the game? Or do you have to play the whole thing over again to get to the level that you like?

2) Is there any way to use an Hero character for an entire level, besides the already mentioned Mos Eisley Assault mode?

I forget the terms but you can select your own list of maps to play in any order with different modes like the normal conquest or capture the flag. That said, you can't play the actual story missions that way, the one with specific objectives and special characters. It's just a vanilla game.

I think I only played the campaign once, it's much easier to just queue up a list of maps and play them through.
