Well. So that's interesting, the synopsis talks about Kirk going where he's never gone before in a relationship? And yet Spock is dominating the front cover there.
Paul Cornell is a terrific writer. Most of the time *cough No Future cough*.
That's clearly the intent. As Dayton said, it's a variant cover, and those are often in-jokes or the like (for instance, mimicking action figure packaging or newsmagazine covers or whatever).
I loved this Valentine's Special. They really knew how to unfold this story, and the huge time frame gave it unexpected weight.
I also liked that this needed to be a comic book. This story could never have been an episode or movie, it needs the comic book format in order to work (or I suppose it could have also been a novel). That's always when I'm most satisfied by tie-in media, when it needs to be in the form that it is, rather than being a regular episode in comic book form.
And of course, always fun to see the TMP-era uniforms.
