Star Trek XI WILL Be The Greatest Film Of All Time!

I won't count a movie out before seeing it just because it's a prequel. Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom and The Good, the Bad and the Ugly were prequels. No problem. But maybe there's something wrong with how prequels are done these days that really rubs me the wrong way. I loved the original Star Wars movies but hated the prequels, loved From Russia With Love (1963) but hated Casino Royale (2006), and loved Batman (1989) but hated Batman Begins (2005), for example (no trolling intended).

And it's not just a sequel/prequel issue. I enjoyed the TV series Mission Impossible and was totally disgusted with the first Mission Impossible movie and have no interest in seeing those that followed. That appears to be a problem I have with recent Hollywood trends, perhaps an emphasis on explosions, etc. at the expensive of good dialog and some of those subtle visual treats that make movies unique as a medium.

I hope the movie turns out to be great. I know that it's theoretically possible. But my trust in Hollywood has been severely comprised of late, making it difficult to be optimistic. It would be nice if J.J. could reverse that and set a higher standard for others to follow, but . . .

Is it true that they are closing 'Star Trek: The Experience' in Vegas just so they can turn it into 'Battlestar Galactica: The Experience'?
Oh, yeah, THAT'LL be fun. You walk in, Tigh yells at you, Starbuck punches you in the head, and before you get to the end at least three people have pulled guns on you. If you're female, you'll be impregnated with a Cylon baby.

Ok, I'm going to start a positive thread about the film, although most of the threads here are positive, except, for a couple...

So who thinks Star Trek XI will be the greatest film of all time, or at least the greatest Star Trek film of all time? I too, was skeptical about recreating the original cast, but who knows, this could be the first odd numbered Trek film that will be a success! I got more into the film when I saw that most of the new actors resembled TOS characters in almost spitting image equality. I am also interested in seeing how they are going to recreate TOS 23rd Century. Is it going to be more like the series, or the movies, or a mixture of both like a lot of remakes are? So who's all excited about this movie?! :techman::cool:

:techman::rommie::drool: Thank you. According to everything I've read it will be BIGGER AND BETTER. Those who have been blessed with little previews say the ships look larger than life and everything looks so "real". Everything of JJ's I've seen shows he has a great eye for the details. I think we will all be happy with this movie, even the "die-hards"!!

Not everybody.

Do you think it could be because they really to much on CGI and/or special effects to make a movie rather then a good story line? I think that may be the problem nowadays.

The real question concerning this film is not whether it is the great film ever, but whether the general film audience will go and see it.
