Star Trek XI - New faces, right fit?

Pine did a good job as a whacked out hit man in Smokin' Aces. Though the role was nothing like Kirk, the way he played a character that was so over the top and crazed demonstrated that he can act. We'll just have to wait and see if he can act like Captain Kirk.

Is anyone else having trouble getting that link to work?

I've tried two different browsers, and neither can get thru.

The one in the OP? I tried it just now and it was working.

It could have been something like the host being down temporarily for maintenance or some sort of ISP issue. I'd say try it again in a little while.

Over the top, eh? That gives me a lot of hope that Pine can nail this role!

I was told, with grreat confidence tonight, that Simon Pegg will be wearing a wig for the film!

More news from the taverns of England as it comes!

I think Yelchin is a hard sell as is Pegg. I'll have problems with Yelchin specially while watching Terminator 4, where he'll play a young Kyle Reese, thinking he is Chekov!

Sounds like Yelchin is half way there to being type cast in the genre

I hear Ben Cross is going to play Sarek - good casting!

If Pegg gets the accent and excitability of Scotty down I think he'll do OK. Cross is a good casting for the intimidating presence of Sarek, but at 60 he seems a little old for the ages Sarek would have been in a prequel. Hopefully makeup can do alot, but if there are sequels, and the character takes off like Lenard's Sarek did, and the audience wants to see more of him, age really could be a problem.

I don't see this as a look alike contest.

These are iconic characters needing skilled actors to portray them.

So is James Bond, the actors playing him have done so with varying degrees of success. Daniel Craig was, IMHO, pretty damn great but looks NOTHING like the original....Sean Connery.

The only problem I have is Yelchin almost certainly won't speak English like a 23rd century Russian apparently did. Same for Pegg with his Scottish accent. ;)

Am I the only one who thinks that photo-shopped picture of Pine as Kirk looks like a creepy wax museum dummy?
No, you're not the only one. He really has a stupid expression in his face.

Hey, Pine's expression is his own... I didn't change it. I did have to reduce the facial hair a bit though. That explains a bit of the waxy look to his skin. And the jawline is Shatner's. So is the hair(piece), of course. Basically, everything inside the outline of the face is Pine. Everything else is Shatner.
